Equipment Recommendations for Airing Up

I started with portable, a single hose and no dedicated deflators. As I started going more often, I found I wanted to take less stuff with me each time and air up/down faster. I got the onboard twin arb compressor, the valve stems that deflate in 4-5 seconds and the quad hoses. It made the tedium of airing up and down a bit less of a chore.

Still annoying unless you manage to get one of these installed on your bronco. Also if anyone in the states has done this, show it off. This pic I found on reddit.

I guess I don't get the air issue. I keep a little compressor and some plugs if I catch a puncture..that's it. If I did air down it would take my compressor about a 6 pack to air up...but I keep enough hydration to do that.

I run the ARB twin dual compressor. Personally I bought it because quality, convince and size. Filling 4x 35s from 12(ish) PSI back to 38 PSI in the middle of nowhere takes some work for a little compressor. ARB engineers their equipment to withstand these extreme working conditions and temps. It fits in the engine compartment, is wired to an aux switch and takes less cargo space away from the rest of my gear. I also use Indeflate 4 with it and it has made things a lot easier for airing up or down and ensures equal PSI on all 4 tires simultaneously. And I was able to swing the expense. When it comes to off road equipment, If you can swing the expense for quality you should... hope it helped.

I have the Thors setup with molle mount. It’s hardwired. Very convenient and fast. Because it is so easy, I air down a lot more. We go on FS roads a lot and it cuts down on the rattling and beating up my Bronco. I put on the CRS hose/reel just because I saw it and liked it.

The main difference between the ARB Twin Air Compressor, which is $616 and a portable air compressor such as the MORRFlate or THOR for like $350 or so... is that the ARB is an ONBOARD air compressor and the others are PORTABLE.

Onboard air compressors LIVE inside your vehicle, installed, always ready to go. While portable air compressors live in a carrying case and have to be setup every time you want to use them. The portable connect via alligator clips to your battery while onboard air are wired to the battery at all times.

Both are about the same speed, with portables MAYBE being slightly faster because they are BIGGER compressors.

The real enthusiast prefers onboard air because it's out of the way, doesn't require setting up and is VERY reliable. They are built to take a lot of abuse and heat because they are onboard air compressors.

For airing DOWN you can go with an automatic system such as the MORRFlate Air Hub, or use valve stem removals OR (my prefered option) screw on tire deflators that stop to a pre-set PSI (such as the Staun TIre Deflators.

I've been surf fishing since I was a kid so airing up/down is nothing new to me. I do it constantly.

So for my $$ I have an ARB Twin Air Compressor installed in all of my vehicles and carry Staun Tire Deflators with me. I also use a digital tire gauge with a PSI meter built in (although I prefer analog since im always letting the batteries die in the gauge).

I think people have covered the options pretty well. I have somewhat “split the difference “ installing an under hood mount that accepts most of the “NAPA” and “Viair” style compressors. It even works with a “bungie” set up giving you the option to take the compressor out for mobile use (my Viair is currently in its mobile bag in my F150 for a trip). It ends up about $300, depending on the compressor you choose.

The guy making the mounts has done a lot of testing and is a Btonco owner/enthusiast too.

It’s just one bracket. Install took about 30 minutes. I used a quick disconnect on the 12v connection.

That's darn good pricing. I think it is about what my self assembled kit cost. The Power Tanks stuff is nice but they are also enjoying some very healthy profit margins.

Billet parts are expensive. USA manufacturing is expensive. R&D is expensive. We had to create our own manufacturing method to bend the aluminum rods for our handles. All other handles are either cast aluminum or plastic. We could put together off-the-shelf components, but most couplers, etc. in part catalogs aren't designed for 400 psi so we have to design and manufacture to our own spec.

If we had scale on our side, we could probably bring our cost down but I don't think most people realize we're a 7 person operation in the small town of Lodi.

We really appreciate everyone who supports our small business, whether that be from making purchases big and small or simply spreading the word.

Thanks for the clarifications. I love your products and realize you're a small business. I actually figured much smaller than 7 people...

I run your Monster Valves and pressure gauge and very much appreciate how well they are designed, their attention to detail and their performance (all incredible!). I do a decent "sales" job with friends and acquaintances selling the MV + tank merits (as partially evidenced in my prior post).

That said, It remains a very steep hurdle to justify your PT prices given the pricing at the link above or simply doing the build it yourself option. As you know, and not accounting for the gauge, you are nearly double the cost, not a 20% premium, not 50%, but close to 100% for the small/lowest cost tank system.

The ideal of supporting a small and US business (which I do, often) and the negligible performance differences just don't justify the ~2x price for me personally.

I'm certainly not trying to lecture nor tell you how to price your products. But it seems obvious to me your costs or margins (or both) are simply too high on the simple/small PTs.

+1 for the ARB twin compressor mounted under the hood for reasons everyone has already stated that has one. Ford Performance had a 25% off recently for Fourth of July, so I couldn’t resist. Now I never have to worry about it.
