oooo you are right! I just checked that out on their site. That gives me a little pause... That is a lot of extra leverage on a knuckle that is a hollow casting!!!! I have seen pics of a couple Ford knuckles breaking.... Suprised the hell out of me that they were hollow.
Definitely a concern I've had for sure. I dont beat on my rig near as hard as they've been beating on the Turn rigs as well as the other testers so *fingers crossed*

Going to be interesting to see how the lower gear reduction effects breakage and performance.
If I’m not mistaken they’ve broken three CV’s and one rear axle.

I’m not a fan of the 11% reduction. It makes zero sense to do that so you don’t need to change anything with the computer to run 38’s. Throw a higher reduction on there to help with crawling and not smoke the transmission in precarious climbs. If you’re worried about the computer just adjust the tone rings like 55weld did. Easy peasy. The ten speed has plenty of gearing to handle a deeper reduction. Wifey’s rig with 6.17 final gearing and 40” tires is still under 3000 rpm on the interstate.

Let's at least keep in mind those broken CV's were heavily influenced by their driver with bad throttle control lol no offense to her as shes new and learning like we all do. She got more balls than I do ill say that.

I do wish they would have gone with a higher reduction.

I will say it out loud for others. Performance decrease and increased torsional stresses (breakage???).

Leverage, leverage, leverage. Turn made a design decision to use OEM knuckle and links. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. There will be Increased loads due to altered load paths (leverage). Radial forces on UCA and LCA increase. Those must be reacted by the knuckle. Asking a lot from oem knuckle and single shear UCA frame mounts. Especially with heavy wheeling loads. Maybe good enough factor of safety in oem design. But loads are going up wrt non portal setup.

To simplify for folks mudding through this and getting confused or getting misled.

FACT: HOSS 3.0 works just fine with Turn portals.

FACT: it is recommended to run HOSS 3.0 with any portal setup.

FACT: Turn makes tie rods.

OPINION: Just get the Hoss 3.0 with OEM 3.0 tie rods and call it a day.

FACT: The folks here commenting are OG’s in the Bronco aftermarket world that have helped make it what it is today. Believe them over Chat GPT. We literally turn the wrenches on this crap.

FACT: Turn off-road is a great company with great customer support that treats the Bronco community well. They have proven to have excellent customer service.
The original question wasn't whether Hoss 3.0 could be run with portals but more so whether it could be run with the steering tie rods that Turn Off Road actually makes that's all. It was about their steering upgrade nothing more just tie rods. I don't doubt their portals, I actually like them I was just expressing concern for steering because 74weld has the same track expansion but they beefed up the rack much more than the stock rack so this must have been for a reason. So can you answer directly if Turn Offroad Tie rods can be run with the 3.0 steering rack or not, I also expressed I was getting mixed answers and was confused?

So forget the portals, if one was to just run some beefy 37x13.50r17 tires with like 17x9 -12mm offset wheels and a Dobinson MRR or any other lift kit. If you wanted to upgrade you gear ratio would you choose the 5.13 or 5.38 gear ratio? Stock setup is 4.7 with Sasquatch.

She is an accurate representation of someone buying portals.

Realistically you would be down grading strength for more mechanical advantage. I also theorize that the jeep 4 to 1 transfer case is the primary reason m220 doesn't hold up as well on jeeps.

Call Turn and get it straight from the people that make them.

Otherwise yes, the threads will fit. The boots however may not as they were designed for a 2.0 rack. The 3.0 rack is slightly bigger. Sometimes companies have enough tolerance to accommodate the 3.0 rack. Call them and ask.

I haven’t wheeled with her so I wouldn’t know. But…wifey started really wheeling harder stuff for the first time when we got her portals with a higher reduction and HEAVY 40” Open Country MT tires. And while portals don’t make components stronger as many claim, they do reduce stress on components upstream as long as they’re moving. It took her a year and a half to break a rear axle, and another month or so to break a front axle. With a lot of wheeling in that time frame. And I believe the CV broke due to winching while the front locker was on.

That said I recognize it’s pointless to share my anecdotal thoughts as it seems we’re in agreement that a higher reduction is ideal with the bronco platform. But other members of the forum may find it useful.

Ditch the lift kit. Get bigger fenders and a crash bar delete.

For 38” tires I went 5.38 but that’s on a D60 and the bigger aftermarket front drive unit.

Just kidding. AI is awesome. It just quickly generated the net steering moment arm for SAS OEM and turn portals on 38s. Enjoy.
