Compatibility.... well I can tell you where AI is missing the boat... HOSS 2 inners and HOSS 3 outers are not compatible. Same with HOSS 3 inner and HOSS 2 outer, not compatible. You have to change out the whole tie rod or nothing at all. But either inner (2 or 3) will thread into either rack (2 or 3)... The tie rod to rack threads are identical.
I was just asking more and it said it's not always about the inner threading either. Some brands like Iconbtie rods may be used on both racks but others may not be. The core reason one brand tie rod is compatible across multiple racks while the other isn't comes down to how they designed their inner joint housings and how strictly they tailored their rubber dust boots to fit a single factory shape. I don't know anymore, all this shit is confusing me now. I may just have to call them and ask because my whole thing was they onviousky designed their own tie rods to accommodate for unsprung weight and negative offset scrub radius but they don't talk about the steering rack but when you talk to 74Weld who has the same track width as Turn Offroad, they are saying you need to beef the exterior part of the steering rack as well not just tie rods. So the two sides have different philosophies on this I guess as 74weld has that stage 3 rack kit. I guess I will just call Turn Offroad and ask them about reliability if you have to keep the the Hoss 2.0 steering rack when you go with their setup. Why didn't they release their own steering rack upgrade or do they not think it's important but yet allow you to run up to 40 inch tires, sounds a little weird to me.

Portals will really not change much on the rack... Yes some scrub radius... BUT your big issue is the new tires... You put portals on you will change the tires... I promise.... Looks silly if you do not and really you want to make as much use of them as you can. It is the change in tires that will DEMAND that you change the rack.... HOSS 2 rack will NOT last with larger tires (combined with the larger scrub radius). The 74 rack actually uses the HOSS 3 rack and pinion as well as the HOSS 3 motor... 74 changes out the housing and bushings. The housing is stiffer and the bushings have much more surface area and bushing materials (in my opinion) have better ILD and rebound as well as durability. They are not indestructible... People have bent that rack. But I believe that it is a vastly improved system over the HOSS 3...

The big difference between the HOSS 2 rack and the HOSS 3 rack is a reinforced housing. The HOSS 3 rack has additional ribbing that is calculated to be in the higher stress planes. The rack itself I believe (I could be wrong here) is slightly larger diameter. HOSS 3 motor also has 30% more torque. This additional stiffness is what gives Ford the confidence to match the HOSS 3 with a larger diameter Tie rod.

I was hoping Turn Offroad would make their own beefed up steering rack kind of like the way 74 weld did and make it cheaper but it looks like maybe best way is to get the 74weld rack if you are going to run the portals.

I read somewhere a few days ago that if you upgrade to a 3.0 rack then these portals with the new tie rods they have will not work with the 3.0 rack only the 2.0. I find that very strange that they don't have compatibility with both racks. Again, not sure if true but that's what I read.
These portals from Turn do not have new tie rods. They dont replace the knuckles like the 74W portals do. They have absolutely zero to do with tie rods or steering racks. I am running a HOSS 3.0 rack with the Ford Performance tie rods. I dont know where youre getting your information but you read something wrong somewhere.

I was on their site and they do make tie rods.

I was on their site and they do make tie rods. So is it recommended to run their portals with either 2.0 or 3.0 steering rack regardless of tie rod, is this reliable enough on such a huge scrub radius and unsprung weight. What are they doing to address steering issues? Is it possible to run their portals but use a 74weld steering rack?

You may be okay with the HOSS 3.... BUT that would be my minimum... Or a HOSS 3 with the reinforcement... There is also the Vasher rack....

oooo you are right! I just checked that out on their site. That gives me a little pause... That is a lot of extra leverage on a knuckle that is a hollow casting!!!! I have seen pics of a couple Ford knuckles breaking.... Suprised the hell out of me that they were hollow.

Was right though, they do not replace the knuckle so what ever tie rod runs on the ford runs on these.... BUT see my post above.... That does concern me.

Turn Offroad makes portals but besides the tie rods they got they don't do anything else to improve steering, I guess it's up to you to figure that out. Maybe they will do something in the future, I just think that 74weld rack is so damn expensive almost 6k.

well it was true they did have the tie rods and that was their only steering upgrade, I don't think that's good enough but whatever.

Just kidding. AI is awesome. It just quickly generated the net steering moment arm for SAS OEM and turn portals on 38s. Enjoy.

To simplify for folks mudding through this and getting confused or getting misled.

FACT: HOSS 3.0 works just fine with Turn portals.

FACT: it is recommended to run HOSS 3.0 with any portal setup.

FACT: Turn makes tie rods.

OPINION: Just get the Hoss 3.0 with OEM 3.0 tie rods and call it a day.

FACT: The folks here commenting are OG’s in the Bronco aftermarket world that have helped make it what it is today. Believe them over Chat GPT. We literally turn the wrenches on this crap.

FACT: Turn off-road is a great company with great customer support that treats the Bronco community well. They have proven to have excellent customer service.

Turn Offroad has had their own tie rods for a long time now, still has nothing to do with the portals. The portals cam be used with either HOSS 2.0 or 3.0. Yes, it is on the end user to take the risk on their steering components and decide what to upgrade or what not to upgrade.

Like I've mentioned previously, I have HOSS 3.0 and the Ford Performance tie rods. Having the HOSS 3.0 is exactly why I am NOT upgrading tie rods at the moment. Hope the tie rods will be the weak link and go before my rack. I dont do anything too intense at the moment so the rack should be okay for now. However I do plan on upgrading in the future. I have word that a certain company that is "Turn"ing out some new and exciting products may or may not be designing a new hydro assist heavy duty rack.....not sure how far out that will be though. I've also been contemplating the Vasher rack. Well see what happens.
