Geriatrics man.. I'm tellin ya.
Don’t knock old school. At least I’m still here. Apparently, you’re not there yet, so show some respect for “geriatrics”. One day you too will be there if your luck doesn’t run out first.
Alien we just like having fun at 6g. We wouldn’t be busting your balls if we didn’t love you.

Some people are only still alive simply because it's illegal to kill them.

I understand where your coming from and I'm an old school guy too. I'm not a fan of a lot of new gadgets and electronics on todays cars. I don't like digital speed odometers, electric parking brakes and having to learn forscan. I am a big fan of Kiss, keep it simple stupid. One can do upgrades on cars or in this case broncos with various complicated methods or simple ones.

In your case there is a really simple one, no dash to take apart no rewiring anything. Simple solution and I might add some real upgrades, 1= GET A SCANGAUGE ULTRA , mount the gauge where ever you want to.
2= plug the cable into your diagnostic port, select the trans gauge and it will display any gear your in. There is 18 I think slots to get more displays for more information than you will ever need.

Not trying to be a jerk, only serious , I got my scangauge for the same reason as you, I want to see what gear I'm in when hill climbing or snow. Work a bronco hard and coolant temps go up trans temps too ,turbo boost too, constant tire pressure or individual tires all can be displayed. Of all the upgrades I've done to my bronc this one is way above them all.

Respect is earned, not given.

I was just busting your balls though, sometimes I'm old enough to be "mature".. other times.. not so much.

I wish those still existed, it's such a quicker and easier way to engage/disengage them.
You must not have ever lived in the snow/ rust belt.

IMO it's a habitual thing for people that have been driving for decades. On column mounted shifters your mind is trained to look above the steering column to see the selection so screen indication works well. That's why it never bothered me much on my Tesla. When the shifter is console mounted it's habitual for me to look down at times to view the selection. I can't imagine I am the only person that glances there at times when taking the vehicle out of park to see nothing but cheap painted symbols. It's not the end of the world for sure but totally fine to critique Ford for chintzing out as we aren't talking about a $30k Escape. When people start lowering their expectations, little things like this start disappearing until you end up with nothing except a single giant screen for everything.
