These damned V8 threads are turning me into a troll on a forum I really like. Oh well, here goes…

I’d exchange some performance to get a Toyota 4.0L V6 (the 1GR-FE) swapped into my Bronco. At least then I’d have reliability and simplicity for peace of mind.

Also, I misplaced this somewhere else but figured it fit pretty well here…

I hope everyone’s big engine vroom vroom “truck nuts for president” dreams come true. Mostly so you’ll STFU.

You will NEVER see a V8 option for the bronco. Ford is doubling down on electric, they killed the edge to make room for a future electric platform. They just invest billions in the Tennessee plant....that ship has sailed at ford.

I've spent my life with 4-bangers (first and last small cars, then the Bronco) and V6s (two small/mid-sized trucks). All were naturally aspirated except the Bronco.

The 2.3 is good enough to get the job done on my Bronco and I don't have any complaints. Still, I'd be very happy with the NA Toyota 3.4 liter V6 and its tuned intake runners that my T100 had. Aside from good performance, the exhaust note was just fine with me. I don't need a deep growl.

You're correct about everything here, except there's no hope of a mass production 5.0 bronco.

The idea that an NA v8 is "more complex" than a ttv6 is insane. Have they looked under the hood?
Yeah, I doubt it as well, but one can hope I guess. We have a fleet of Expeditions both old and new, and the EcoBoost just aren’t holding up. Granted is public service and we best these trucks, but the older 5.4s would routinely see 250k without any major issues. I can’t keep the turbos from going, or of course the waste gate from leaking. We did try and get Ford to offer the 5.0 in the SSV packages, but they said no.

Meh, I'll keep my 2.7V6. As it was stated earlier, its a stronger block, makes more TQ earlier, and can be modded out to really perform. A 5.0 is going to give you vroom vroom and some tq, but that's it. For off-roading, in all of its forms, the 2.7 and 3.0 can give you all you need. Hell, even the 2.3 can get the job done.

The Bronco is not a race car, though yeah, it can go fast, (trust me, I have left a few things at the line))but it was not built for that.
I had an Audi SUV driver lean out the window and crane his neck to look hard at my Bronco for a couple of seconds after I bested him at a stoplight in Sport Mode today. I eventually had to slow for traffic in front and he rolled by gawking. He then did what looked like a thumbs up with his steering hand. I think he was pretty surprised by how quick my powder-puff looking HE moved. 😆

I was thinking of trading in my FE in on a Raptor or maybe a scout in a year or two, but now this happens - Gladiator V8. If there was a V8 Bronco, especially the Raptor (I know, I know, not enough space in the engine bay apparently), I'd be sticking with a Bronco for sure.

Jeep Gladiator 392 V8 Confirmed, Wrangler 392 Continuing Indefinitely
The v8 does fit.

I would love to see the 7.3 v8 as an option. And to see it at a price that is not too high. But I think a 5.0 would be more likely and there would be a 50k upcharge for it.

Ford does not get how cool the 7.3 is. It would sell well in the Mustang if Ford ever made it an option. Put the 7.3 in the ranger it would sell well there too.

Today I learned!
"...It features a compacted graphite iron (CGI) block, a material typically used in diesel engines, which contributes to its strength and durability."
The 6.7 powerstroke team designed the engine also! Just another reason to love the 2.7

The main reason I'm not worried too much about the turbo on my 2.3 is that I'm old, my Bronco is for fun only which somewhat limits the miles driven, and I expect to stop getting out on the trail before the turbo goes.

Again, I loved my 1996 Toyota 3.4 NA. It went about 195K miles and 27 years before I sold it and it was still running strong. Other than a recall for a gasket it never gave me any trouble.

I had a conversation about how engines work and how power is made with my nephew last year. Eventually, he asked, “so what’s better?” The only answer that matters is the one I gave him. Depends on the application.

A coyote v8 would be awful unless there’s some cams to move the power down low. That’s 4 cams for anyone counting.

The 7.3 on the other hand, makes a lot of sense until you factor in cost to swap it. Then the factory ecoboost options are really the winner. You can replace a lot of turbos and watergates for that kind of coin.

Folks pining for a V8 Gladiator need to test drive ANY Gladiator first. It's gawd awful.

This is also Stellantis... the V8 Gladiator will be $20K more than a Ranger Raptor and the RR is a way better vehicle.

You think people are clamoring for a mustang with 50 fewer hp?

Maybe a factory 91+ tune would make that up?

Also, those who keep track, is the 7.3 an aluminum block? Is it lighter then the coyote?

You're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Ford already has a 480hp v8 for the mustang, they're not going to do this lol.

Same with the current bronco. They already have more overlap than they need with the 2.3 2.7 and 3.0.
