which hood prop?

I saw the survey and a lot of people like their hood hydraulic props, my question is which one? The Ford version is about $125 and uses 2 bolts on each end and looks pretty good and heavy duty. But then I saw the one from Buckle Up and it is a single connection point on each end and about $50. Is the Buckle Up version seem to be heavy enough or does it work good enough and not going to bend anything up or damage anything?

Exactly. It’s the easiest upgrade - Redline and others for around $100 and 10 minutes to install. The retro hood prop is a cute nod to the old days - but I upgraded to struts on all my EBs immediately after getting them. Props are pointless nowadays. I just did it on my scoop hood, took 20 minutes due to riv nutting the fiberglass.

I put Redline struts on my Subaru back in 2012 and they're still working. I also like their mounting system. I bought the Redline QuickLIFT for my Bronco. I didn't get the Max LIFT or the Ford versions. They lift the hood an extra six inches. I didn't want to have to use a step ladder to close my hood.

I went with the IAG strut as it was a quick and easy install and works great.

I think the Ford kit is a branded Redline QuickLift kit. You can get it from other places for a more reasonable price, Lethal has it as well as others that sell Ford parts.

I installed the Mabett struts and they worked fine until I installed an ARB dual compressor with the Grimm Offroad bracket. I switched to the Redline and they worked fine with the Grimm.

I went with the Mabett struts because they had a 2-point attachment on the hood - that I'd heard had been an issue for a few folks. The price was good. The only issue I have is that it's really in the way trying to work over the fender on some things.

I think you're right. They use the same mounting hardware.

These are more reasons I went with Redline. It seems the Mabett also block fuse panel access. I bought mine directly from Redline.

Same. Do not get the Mabett ones, or any pair that mount towards the front of the engine bay. They get in the way for wiring, and don’t fit with some other engine accessories like air compressors. Get any brand that connects to the back of the engine bay.

Normally I'm old school, but went with these Redlines as well, and they work great. I open and close the hood every morning and evening dealing with a raccoon issue, so the struts have seen a lot of use and are holding up fine.

As mentioned in the thread, these struts provide more clearance than some other designs, when leaning into the bay from the sides.

i like to wrench on my vehicles, and i went with the MRT
as they are completely out of the way once installed, and they work as required.
