This is how things are evolving on these 'connected' vehicles. I hear that other vendors are charging fees to activate pretty normal built-in features besides Navigation. (think like Self-driving, heads-up display, camera data capture, etc.)
I went ahead and got it because I like that it's built-in and readily available. I agree that Google Maps and even Apple Maps would likely provide all I need, but I also like having the Home Automation (open/close garage, turn lights on/off, etc.) with the Alexa-enabled interface as well.
I have something similar for the (aftermarket) center console tray. As an added bonus, the file I used carved a 'Bronco' script in it as well. (sorry no pics).
Just to reassure you that leaving a switch on will make the lights come on automatically with start. I have my Grill letter lights on SW 5 and just leave it on all the time. Goes off when stopped.
Ha ha - I made up reasons to go out to the Garage (take out the trash, recycling, etc.) to have another look at mine - you know, just to be sure that it's not a dream.
Geez - You'd have be HELL BENT on getting amber halos to cough up funds like that. I'd prowl through pick your own part yards instead - these have been around enough to allow for several to have found a final resting place there. I'll keep my Factory white lights.
There was a video online showing a guy juggling the Hard top off his Bronco. After seeing that, I knew that I'd never attempt it without someone to help. It's a big, bulky, awkward, very expensive mistake just waiting to happen. Just be careful.
So funny... I don't know what the wife pays to have this, but she insisted that we activate the Bronco as well. I have 100's of channels to choose from and listen to 1-2 only.
What I'd really like to see is an easy on/off solution for this, so that I can restore the Tire-width Fender Flares (some states require full coverage) for daily usage. Call is a 'Weekender'? I didn't look at the web site - are these fairly easy to remove/replace?
Plus ONE (to @Brian_B ) - I'm also using the Gorilla brand (they have a 27-piece all-black set at CJ Pony Parts) - they are holding up great.
I chose a non-locking spline drive as more of a deterrence than secure. A determined individual can unscrew any kind of lug nuts pretty quickly. I'm...
I ended up getting a set off Amazon under $20 (Nilight, I believe). They're more of an accent than anything. My M&R Light Bar gives off WAY more light.
