Having an issue in my 2.7…..maybe…. (3,500 miles)
my wife usually drives the bronco…so I only get in it once a week.
something seems weird..
When you start from a standing start, and accelerate moderately, it seems like its about to fly apart, winds out, makes a lot of engine whining noise….
but after you get up to 35 and get off the throttle and then get back on it, it has twice as much power, sounds like it should and takes off….
thinking this was freakin odd…. I put the boost gauge on the instrument cluster and, like i thought…
when you take off from a standing start (in eco, normal or sport. Doesn’t matter which).. it builds less than a pound of boost until you let off the throttle…. Doesn’t seem to matter how fast you eventually go… no boost.. but its scary cause the motor is really sounding like a rabid sewing machine….
when you are crusing along at a steady speed and drop the trottle, you get boost… and lots of it depending on the drive mode…
In a previously life, I worked on RX7’s and if this was an FD twin turbo RX7… id say the small turbo wasn’t working…but… when that happened, the second turbo would eventually kick in….
In this case, it seems like the wastegate is only closing when you are at speed already…
its about due for its first oil change so im going to have them check it…
i just want to know if there’s something im overlooking that is switched off or something before i sound like an idiot to the service manager.
