My wife received an alert on her phone yesterday about the bronco having a code stored for an exhaust flow control valve or something and the ses light on, see dealer now. I went out and started it up, no issues. Took it out for a ride last night , no issues. Checked my Ford pass and found it received an ota update. Must have been some kind of glitch with that.
I feel the ota updates are to fix things that may cause a warranty claim down the road involving the dealer updating it for you. I allow all the updates on our vehicles and usually I'm notified on the app before it happens. I'm sure it benefits the company more than us, but I feel they're attempting to make things better.

So honest question here…I’ve had Mazdas and Toyotas for the last….well since my sweet ā€˜86 Escort GT. My Bronco is the first vehicle I’ve owned that gets OTA updates. If it’s running great with zero issues from day 1….why would I want to or need to apply one of Fords updates?

I have automatic updates disabled. I guess I have the ā€œif it ain’t broke don’t fixed itā€ thing going on with the Bronco.

Am I being dumb and I should take any update pushed from Ford??
I got a notification from the tuner of my pickup to turn off automatic updates if running the big boi 1050cc injectors and E85. Turned it off on the screen and…it updated anyway. Truck was very much not happy with going back to the stock tune with the big injectors. Probably looked like a diesel when I first remote started it. And it caused all kinds of issues trying to reinstall the correct tune. Was a whole thing.

Sweet jesus can they just post a damn changelog, ffs?
I work in software (EDIT: NOT AT FORD)...Marketing always blocks this in lieu of "Stability changes and Usability Improvements" or some other generic trash

This is what the strategy changed on the Mach E and Lightning.

Ford Bronco June 27, 2024 software update 1718297754048-29

On the F150, it changed the strategy to -FBL.

Ford Bronco June 27, 2024 software update 1719594300083-tl

Not sure what the changes were for the Bronco. I'd need a VIN to check.

So fords updates aren’t cumulative? Let’s say ford puts out 4 updates, if I skip the first 3 consecutive updates and catch the 4th one, it still has to run the first 3 I skipped because the code in the 3 missed updates are not part of the 4th one? If that’s the case then yeah, your take on best practice makes total sense to me.
Some are, but most are not. In most cases, APIM, GWM TCU and some IPC updates must be installed in a certain sequence, but most other modules can be updates in no particular order.

Is there a way to disable the annoying startup message about updates? I have auto updates disabled but would like to not see any message everytime I start my bronco.

Updates that require the vehicle to be inhibited have a 30 day timer before they will expire. As far as I know, there is no way to get rid of that message other than to wait for the OTA trigger to time out on the server.

Is CDK still not online?
I read reports a couple days ago that they'd manage to bring *some* clients online. While they didn't say specifically HOW many or what percentage the implication was it was still a relatively small minority. It also wasn't clear if those clients had all functionality available.

Turning off auto updates was the very first "mod" I did when I got my Bronco in 2022.

Mentioned it here and got pages of people roasting me because apparently I don't understand something or another.

Almost 2 years later and aside of 1 update that Ford seemed to have forced on me, no real problems to speak of.

My only complaint, is turning off auto updates does not turn off Ford constantly nagging me.

Right now, because of this recent push, I have to tell Ford to go F themselves twice almost every time I start my Bronco... eventually I think they go away.

I'm hoping eventually my software will be so far out of date It won't even try to update anymore :)

I don't think your dumb...but I've been a Mac user and had automatic updates for years and never had a virus...I'm one of those guys that think "we are the test market" and updates are a good thing because we bitch about problems and Ford tries to fix them...I'm on board with auto updates. I also noticed that my Bronco is shifting considerably smoother with a little more zip and I am getting 20.1 MPG with a 2.7 auto...I like it...just my opinion
