What 4-banger experience are you comparing it to? The 2.3 is far from your average 4-cylinder. It has plenty of power. Only 3 tenths of a liter smaller than the 2.6. I just had it in the mountains in Colorado and it had more than enough power, never struggles in hills, and will outrun any Jeep with a V6. Driveline loss is the same no matter what engine is in front of it.
I am hearing great things about that 4 banger in the Toyota Tacoma.

I may be the minority but I think dismissing the 4 bangers today is like dismissing the 3.5 in the F150 Raptor when it first came out. IMO that was a ballsy but great move by Ford.

I don’t know man, here’s what happened to me now I know it’s a 2.7 but the 2.7 and the 3.0 are both susceptible to the dreaded cam phaser bullshit, it has 1200 miles on it I started it to jockey vehicles around to get the bronco down by the garage to detail no issue, 2.5 hours latter started to jockey back around and bam sounded just like yours tech heard 2 seconds of my video and said yep cam phasers leave it here it’s been there for a week so far
Interesting. So it sounded like mine all the time or just when you started it? Or Vice Versa? I know the 2.7 and 3.0 are similar from what they are telling me at the dealership. Have they told you the fix yet?

2.6 ? , the 3.6 is garbage in the Jeep I had a 2.0 turbo which was worthless I just want no part of a 4 cylinder hamster wheel my experience with them is my experience with them same as yours is yours, if this goes south with mine meaning future problems after having my engine apart I’ll dump it and either move on to something else or go back to only having one vehicle as a daily

I’ve had “new ones” 4 bangers are not for me, I may go drive a landcruiser and new 4Runner just to make sure but I pretty much already got it in my head as a nope

Sorry meant 2.7 and 4 tenths. Understandable if you don’t like what you don’t like.
Mostly stating my experience with them for people reading these threads so they don’t automatically dismiss the 2.3. Only reason I was willing to get a Bronco with it is our 2015 Mustang had it and it was a blast to drive. Can definitely feel the difference because of the weight, but we still like it, especially compared to the Jeep 3.6.

UPDATE: Dealership called and said Ford agreed to tear it apart and order parts for the top end. I am grateful but I wonder what parts your ordering when its "normal"? They obviously knew the whole time. Just glad they are looking deeper instead of trying to give it back to me.

Finally received back today. Been at Ford since July 9. Replaced Left Head, Followers, Cam, Cam phasers, on top of both cats before that.

But "It was normal" they told me. Hmmmmm...

It would be interesting to see what's documented in the service history and FDRS.

Im not 100% sure TBH but I think it's the same guy. Based on my conversations with the Service Manager and the service rep (who has been fighting for this the whole time), they blame the FORD field rep and Ford with trying to get the necessary work approved. They need to be sure they get paid for the work and the Field Rep apparently was the one that told them to change the top end so I don't blame the tech 100% necessarily. Im sure it was approved over the phone of because if you would hear it in person, you probably wouldn't have wasted 7 weeks with that whole process.

Frustrating all around but I am glad my service rep has been so good and on my side. You know who has been a disappointment? The Ford Customer Care hotline. When I was told to call them and get a case number, the guy on the phone literally said, " Why are you calling instead of complaining to your dealer? Your dealer needs to go through proper channels. This is a waste of time. Its not really for customers." Additionally when I put @Ford in my complaints, they didn't respond for days and by the time they did, I already had a case number and that guy telling me that I shouldn't have called. I only hope those calls are recorded. It was ridiculous.

I have owned many Fords but this will be my last one. There is NO after sale support. Even after you go to Ford and let them know the dealers aren't able to fix your new truck.

Sorry for the rant!

The most useless post you can read goes as follows:

"Send me your VIN number so I can look at it on my side" says the Fordbot.

The saga started with being found on road dead. Culprit being "melted catalytic converters" so they replaced Cats. Received back and the below video shows what my engine sounds like. Ford dealer says it sounds messed up but tech says normal. Checked against others and not normal. Had for a year and a half - never sounded like this before. I emailed @Ford Motor Company with no response to my direct message. Called the hotline and they assigned a case number to it and then told me that my course of action is to take to another dealer because the hotline cannot help diagnose. I explained that my service advisor is the one that said to open a case and they said that the Ford Customer Relationship Center is not really for customers to call so there isn't really anything he can do to help. He said he would try and reach out to dealer but after 45 minutes on hold, nobody answered so I could either go to dealer and try and speak to Manager or take to another dealer.

Yeah FORD!!

That sounds like top end noise.

As someone else mentioned they probably put the wrong oil in it.

They need to fix it ASAP, and extend your warranty.
