It went in the shop sounding fine and came out sounding like it’s making metal. All they supposedly did was change catalytic converters and do an oil change. Only thing that makes sense is it’s somehow oil change related.
I don’t know man, here’s what happened to me now I know it’s a 2.7 but the 2.7 and the 3.0 are both susceptible to the dreaded cam phaser bullshit, it has 1200 miles on it I started it to jockey vehicles around to get the bronco down by the garage to detail no issue, 2.5 hours latter started to jockey back around and bam sounded just like yours tech heard 2 seconds of my video and said yep cam phasers leave it here it’s been there for a week so far

Low oil pressure also affects the cam phasers and visa-versa.
Friend of mine lost an engine in his F150 Raptor to cam phasers bypassing too much oil causing low oil pressure that didn’t show low on his idiot oil pressure fake guage.

Another reason I bought the 2.3 which hasn’t had any cam phaser issues that I’m aware of.

Yeah the oil pressure or lack there of between the plates of the cam phasers will give the dieseling noise, I here ya but for me personally a little 4 banger is just to small for a 6k lb vehicle I made that mistake ounce never again I live in hill country nothing is flat I swear by the “no replacement for displacement” within reason obviously, it seems they struggle on the hills where you’re working it so hard my mpg was shit like 14-15 at best, seems people only see the hp/tq rating the manufacturer puts on the engine and don’t take driveline loss and weight of vehicle into consideration

What 4-banger experience are you comparing it to? The 2.3 is far from your average 4-cylinder. It has plenty of power. Only 3 tenths of a liter smaller than the 2.6. I just had it in the mountains in Colorado and it had more than enough power, never struggles in hills, and will outrun any Jeep with a V6. Driveline loss is the same no matter what engine is in front of it.

They changed the oil too while it was in. I have no idea. I also have no idea how the tech says it's normal and @Ford Motor Company says the customer care line is not for customers!
To me, feels like this tech fuck up something and now is trying to save his own ass from taking responsibility by saying it’s “normal/no issues” lol
I’d take it to another dealer and would never come back to that one, make sure to leave them a review on Google with mentioning everything you said here. You’ll see how fast their service quality and willingness to help will change. Had to do this to a Ford dealer back in 2018 because they messed up my Mustang. It was months trying to fight them and get it right and after the review it only took five days for their regional manager to get in touch and help me solve the problem! Sometimes you gotta be that Karen.

I didn't read the whole thread but it sounds like an exhaust leak and if they did the cats, it would make sense.

You should be able to read oil pressure on OBD2. Look at the timing advance etc... There's going to be a sensor somewhere showing something up.

If all else fails, pull the plugs and scope the bores. It would not hurt to get an oil sample and have it analyzed.
Got it. Now I see what you are saying. This is smart!

Maybe get an oil sample and send it to Blackstone for analysis. Always good to have data and not just opinions.

Herb
This is also a GREAT idea!

Yeah, and they will drain/flush/refill and call it good. And it may sound good, but I’d suspect the longevity of the engine to be diminished. I wouldn’t accept it back without some long extended warranty.
Funny thing is...They gave me the "Platinum Extended Warranty" when the brakes went completely out at 5000 miles on the Odometer!!

OK, Maybe not so funny after all. More sad actually.

I don't know if Blackstone has the ability to test the oil and tell you what the viscosity is, but I'd reach out to them and ask. Explain your situation, and maybe they have some additional testing that they can recommend.

Don't join the JL crew.... get a Toyota or Lexus
I already have a couple of Jeeps but I have been seriously looking at the LandCruiser or GX to maybe change things up. I have an LJ for serious rock crawling and camping so it would be nice to have another IFS for long trips. That's what I loved about the Bronco...best of both worlds and jeeps are just best of off roading. I love the BRaptor. I hope they can fix it and get it back on road. Way better than the F150 Raptor I had IMO!

That's what I thought at first too but when I brought it in they said they double checked the install and everything was fine. The service rep (who I like) says it definitely sounds top end and I think the video shows that as well. Seems so co-incidental BUT like was said earlier, it makes even more sense if it was related to the oil change.

It gives a varying actual psi reading? The way to tell is oil PSI will increase and decrease with rpm.
Yes, exactly. I'd be surprised if that is missing from non-Raptor. Might take some tweaking of the display options or custom gauges.
