The tech got the oil hoses mixed up and filled it with transmission fluid or something thin and dumb. Viscosity is a little higher at first startup but gets way too thin when it warms up, thus the noises. That’s the only thing that makes sense. Unless he screwed up and started it without oil by accident and it clearances the bearings for you. It really sounds like low oil pressure noises. Your oil pressure gauge is really only an idiot light. It reads has pressure or doesn’t. Nothing in between really.
This is interesting. I never thought about it stemming from the oil change!

That motor is f'd for sure. Tech said it was fine? Find another tech.

I bet that the OBD2 port can give you the information you need to figure out what is going on.

Thanks for responding!

OBD2 shows nothing stored. I checked it with a reader. No CEL either.

Why would the CATS melt in the first place? And that happened prior to the noise. The whole thing is nuts.

You should be able to read oil pressure on OBD2. Look at the timing advance etc... There's going to be a sensor somewhere showing something up.

If all else fails, pull the plugs and scope the bores. It would not hurt to get an oil sample and have it analyzed.

I'd be thrilled to own a 3.2L diesel-powered Bronco (or at least a 2.0L EcoBlue diesel).

Maybe get an oil sample and send it to Blackstone for analysis. Always good to have data and not just opinions.

That's what I was wondering. I had 2 sets of cats warrantied on my F150 2.7l before 60k miles and they have no idea why.

Excessive egts would be the only thing that would cause the converters to melt down (but the cause of the excessive egts can be numerous).

Are you sure? My Raptor has the precise, real time oil pressure available on the dash.

Hard to diagnose from a video, but sounds like a rod bearing. Oil filter should be checked for metal.

I admit I’m not familiar with the Braptor. It gives a varying actual psi reading? The way to tell is oil PSI will increase and decrease with rpm. Same with temperature, oil pressure will read high at cold startup and decrease at idle as it warms up.

It went in the shop sounding fine and came out sounding like it’s making metal. All they supposedly did was change catalytic converters and do an oil change. Only thing that makes sense is it’s somehow oil change related.

Yeah, and they will drain/flush/refill and call it good. And it may sound good, but I’d suspect the longevity of the engine to be diminished. I wouldn’t accept it back without some long extended warranty.

Sounds exactly what my 2.7 sounded like it’s at the dealer now getting the engine torn apart to do cam phasers only thing is mine would only do it for the first 5seconds or so at start up yours sounds like it stays like that

Melting cats is a typical problem
With boosted engines generally in stock form there’s usually no problem you may have just got defective cats from the manufacturer
