I have been running mine for over six months without issues. It was nice not to have to deal with programming compatibility issues.
Been running mine for over a year now? Idk but for 20,000 miles at least all over the place wheeling every condition on 37’s. Zero issues. Not bad for a “band aid”.

The BB rack and Icons have served me well. No complaints.

I skimmed through the 6 pages and replacing the tie rod with a full billet piece as opposed to a half rod style is the issue here. I’m going to be doing the 74w rack in a few weeks and will be using a half billet rod making the tie rod the weak point (still). Also, the company I’m working with for the tie rods is going to be doing a half rod with a sleeve that goes over the rest to reinforce it a bit. A couple issues with going with a full rod, the biggest is that moisture is bound to get into the rack housing and causing it to fail. Ford will not warranty a rack that has full billet tie rods.

I was thinking you broke a BB plastic bushing. Maybe thinking of someone else. Or was that in your original rack?

That was the original 2.0 rack in an accident. I mentioned it a couple days ago in this same thread I believe. I don’t count that toward wear and tear though. It was a very hard hit with the steering angled during the impact forcing it past the steering stops. The bushing cracked instead of anything else though and I continued to drive for months afterward with no issues.

So, let me understand everyone's concerns about this particular part, 1. you purchased this very, very expensive part because you want to raise your bronco 2 or 3 inches and mount bigger tires. so, once you do this you are already creating lots of stress on the weakest area of the part. 2. How can a company make such claims that "no questions ask to replace it" when they know you are modifying your vehicle to make it perform more strenuous actions. I am guessing that this is being performed on Broncos that are none-factory Sas.
This is just my point of view nothing against anyone that is willing to modify their Broncos beyond their limits, my hat is off to you all. I would love to install 37's on my Wildtrak, I think the Broncos look pretty awesome with the bigger tires, but for me I know I will be creating extra expenses and to be honest I don't want to have. That's just me.
I love reading the blog, because it helps me decide what modifications I can make w/o breaking the bank or my Bronco, and or just leave it as is and have longevity.
:like: Peace brothers and Happy New Year.
Just to be clear, did you attempt to exercise the 'lifetime warranty'?

Lol.. That's one way to say I guess... But no, you already don't understand

That's the $8000 question

I am guessing that this is being performed on Broncos that are none-factory Sas.

Nope

Part of the problem is that 74Weld said that the Ford HOSS 3.0 internals were plenty strong and that the rack was capable of withstanding just about anything short of a JDAM (ok, not quite a JDAM, but anything you could imagine a 4400 truck doing). Perhaps I misunderstood Quinn's video, but that was the impression that I got from it.

It’s been awhile, but that was the way I interpreted the video as well.

The 74 Weld "stage 3" steering rack is something like $5,500. Holy shit it must be AMAZING!
It is amazing. An amazing waste of money.
You can buy FOUR (4) HOSS 3.0 racks for that. But wait you say, "buy once, cry once" They have a LIFETIME WARRANTY. You'll never have to buy another steering rack in your life!
Maybe. Maybe you'll never have to buy another steering rack housing again. But you will have to buy a new HOSS 3.0 rack again if you damage the internals.

Everyone knows that the "fuse" in the steering system is the tie rods. My advice to everyone is to keep that as your fuse. When you have a 74 weld steering rack with RPG tierods and a double shear connection the "fuse" becomes the steering rack itself (the actual steering rack bar specifically).

To replace this 74 weld charges $2086. As you may notice this is more than the cost of an entire HOSS 3.0. Because that's what you're buying and then the labor costs to swap it out.

"Lifetime warranty" did not mean what I thought it meant.
rd-i-do-not-think-it-means-what-you-think-it-means.jpg

TLDR. Tie rods are exponentially cheaper and easier to replace than steering racks. But even in the extreme case of having to replace a steering rack it's way easier and cheaper to just put in a replacement 3.0 rack. (I know, DUH)
So we're now on our 2nd Bronco and we have had nothing but luck this far. We have been running Apes rods inner/cutter with a brace and they have been flawless. We have tested the "fuse" breakage psi and we are fully happy with the set up. I'd even do as far as to say id run a 2.0 with a brace like metalcloaks and carry spares and call it good. Not knocking 74w or portals but anything over 1k I could find 1k thing better to spend my money on!

Trail Militia on YouTube runs the stock Hoss 2.0 rack with no mods and only added the JKS tie rod brace on his 2 door badlands. He has ran some of the toughest trails in the US and no issues with his rack.

I think the problem is overblown and due to mods creating more problems.

Absolutely. I won't even down play by saying average driver this or daily driver that we literally have had ZERO issues. I do enjoy rhe fact people call it Fords weak link and the opportunity to give shops selling tactics though. Also for those wondering you get more flex prerunning than rock crawling as we have seen. Just my 2 cents

So I just got back from the Rubicon. Did the whole trial, two days, not a single problem.
Then as I'm pulling into a parking lot at the end of the trail to air up all of a sudden I can't turn right, at all.
Jacked the front up to take the load off the front wheels and try again.
Nope.
It feels like a mechanical blockage as the wheel still turns left no problem. No lights on the dash.
So we finally hook a strap to the front wheel and use a winch to pull it while I turn, and after a couple of tugs it starts turning
After we used the winch to free it up I drive around the parking lot and it did it one more time, but this time I was able to just force the wheels right and after that it started driving like normal.
I have no idea what happened but had this happened as I was driving down the mountain on twisty roads doing 50-55 mph who knows what might have happened.
So now I have to pull the rack, again, ship it to 74 weld, again, probably pay another 2k to have them fix their "unbreakable" rack for the third time.

SAVE YOURSELVES $10K DO NOT BUY THE 74 WELD RACK.
