i like to wrench on my vehicles, and i went with the MRT
as they are completely out of the way once installed, and they work as required.

Thanks! I’ve been looking for something like this for the carbon hood on my Raptor. I’ve got redlines on our 2 door l, but they won’t work on the carbon hood.

Glad to help. They are quite unique in their mounting positions and very unobtrusive.

Exactly! I need something that mounts to the hinge plate. Ordered them a few minutes ago.

Ford Bronco which hood prop? IMG_3925
My 2 cents worth; The best hood struts are from Rough Country “RC” and the worst hood struts are from MRT. The reason is not the hood struts themselves but the way they mount to the fenders and the hood. The RC hood strut mounts to the hood with two bolts and a bracket (see pic) and mount to the fender with a bracket and three bolts. Most hood struts mount to the hood in one place (with very little hood surface material holding it in place) and the fender in two places. The problem with the MRT hood struts is that they mount to the hood at the hinge, or the very base of the hood so when the hood is open, there’s a lot of movement in the hood and you can actually see the hood flex. If you open the hood with the MRT struts and let the struts raise the hood, when the struts reach full extension and stop you can see the front of the hood continue to bounce with the hood flexing where the hood mounts to the hinge which I think will eventually weaken the hood possibly causing it to buckle. You can actually see the bouncing of the the hood on YouTube in MRTs video when they open the hood on the red bronco. I would also say MRT‘s customer service is not very good. I know all this from firsthand experience, I purchased MRT hood struts for the same reason many others on this forum have said, but when I found out the flaws with them, I tried to return them but MRT said they would not let me return them because they had been installed. Another downside to the MRT hood struts is you have to loosen the bolts that mount the hood to the No hinge so when you re-tighten the bolts you have to be extremely careful to make sure you have the hood lined up properly. I will also mention the MRT hood struts are one of the highest price sets available and the RC set is one of the least expensive.

I think MRT struts put a lot of stress on the hood. Just look at the hood as a lever and the strut mounting point is the fulcrum.

What is wrong with the stock prop?
In my case, it’s for a Raptor which doesn’t have the stock prop rod. It had lift cylinders on the OEM hood, but it was damaged in a wreck.

Unfortunately, they won’t fit on, nor are they recommended for my carbon fiber replacement. It’s something I didn’t realize until after the carbon hood was ordered and installed.

The MRT design is the only one I’ve seen so far that seems to fit the bill.

I never had struts before the bronco, but since having them, I'll probably never be without struts again.
The oem prop gets the job done, but struts are super convenient, and lift the hood higher.
And they are just cool.

It's an upgrade, you don't NEED them, but maybe you deserve them(ok, you don't deserve them, but maybe you can afford them and want to treat yoself)

There’s nothing wrong with the manual prop but the hydraulic struts are nice to have and not expensive. Kind of a win-win

I went with the Steeda's. Two bolt attachment on both ends.
