Please Help: V6 or Painted Roof?

Engine over roof…no brainer. Roof can be painted or wrapped.

I was in the same position and ended up with the 2.3 based on availability of 2-door V6s in my area. To be honest, now that I’ve had my 2.3 for a couple of months it’s a great little engine and well paired to the 2-door. If I was towing or doing a lot of highway miles the 2.7 would be the better choice but for everyday city driving I’m really happy with the 2.3.

I would sacrifice the 2 door and go moar door and the 2.7 with painted top.

Go drive both the 2.3 and 2.7 in the 2024 models and that will give you all the info you need on whether it’s worth giving up
the painted hardtop , my money is on you’ll want the 2.7 , there’s no comparison , even after the tune and whatever other snake oil you want to throw at the 2.3 , the low end torque on low octane fuel for that twin turbo is fantastic, resale is way better in the 2.7 also, I you want to go best of both worlds get the 4 door painted top 2.7

1. Engines blowing (recall pending)
2. Wet belt driven oil pump
3. Plastic oil pan
4. More complex (twice as many heads, turbos, cats, cams, etc.)
5. Harder to work on

2.7L pros:

1. 25% more torque

2.3L cons:

1. 25% less torque

2.3L pros:

1. Lighter weight
2. Less complex
3. More room in engine compartment
4. Solid reputation
5. Cast aluminum oil pan
6. No wet belt
7. Quiet and smooth for a 4.

"way better resale value"? I doubt it. Carvana offered me $10K more than the MSRP I paid for my 22 Base when it was one year old. A few weeks ago I was looking at a Ranger, dealer offered $36K (what I paid for it when new) and just a few thousand less than the price of the new Ranger I was looking at. When it came down to signing the papers, I could't let the Bronco go! I very much doubt my offers would have been higher with the 2.7L, and considering on this forum the 2.3L usually gets great reviews. I get it there are those that want the maximum power available and the V6 is probably best for them. But the 2.3L has plenty of power, I have never regretted chosing the 2.3L. I also consistently average 21 MPG in town and 25 MPG highway in my Base, pretty good for any 4WD truck.

What's the problem with the 2.3L on the highway? I drove mine from Nebraska to Utah 1000 miles accross colorado and wyoming and it was great.

Stick with the 2-door because that's the body style you really want.
Buy the 2025 with the factory matched colored top.
Enjoy the 2.3L with either manual (best) or auto.
Get the High/LUX package because you will Love the 360 camera.

I am faced with similar dilemma right now, although painted roof is not a deal for me. I was going to wait for a 2025, but then they gutted the 2DR options. Now its base or bust for me. So I can get a 2024 with a 2.7L in 2DR, or get a 2.3L in 2DR in a year. My choice seems pretty clear to me. But it is primarily because I am leaning into getting a 2DR Heritage (for the included SAS and I like the cloth seats) and that has to be now.

In your case, since a painted roof is what you waited for, I would probably just get the 2.3L and the Ford Performance Tune. I definitely prefer the 2025 instrument cluster (which closely resembles the 2024 F-150, which I have). But the more i look, the more I like the Heritage.

My assumption is the 2.7 would be better for long highway hauling due to the larger displacement. Probably revs lower, maybe better mpg? No real experience with the 2.7. I’m 90% city in my 2.3 suits it perfectly.

Neither, but if I had to choose one it would be a painted hardtop. 2.3 for life!

I have one of the heaviest versions of the Bronco, and I was very surprised how peppy the 2.3L is. In sport mode, just a bit more than half throttle from a stop I feel like the acceleration is almost EV like. If doubtful, I'd say you go do a long test drive on each engine and decide for yourself.

I hate color-matching hardtops, but you do you.

Nobody's winning any races because they have the 2.7 over the 2.3L when a fast vehicle shows up. I have the FP tune on the 2.3 and it's very nice.

lol the first 3 cons on the 2.7 list are all completely non-issues.
