Might want to consider on board air? Home Depot runs sales as seen in a facebook group. Pick up Milwaukee 18vt compressor. It’s small and can use it anywhere
i am saving up for an arb, but i am going offroad tomorrow, no reason to pickup a compressor for 1 trip

I run 34 cold (in summer) on the street with zero issues.

Tire size and vehicle weight determine correct PSI. I run 26-28 on the highway, but of course that applies to my tires size and vehicle weight, so what was the question again?

I always air down for going off road. A some times you could maybe get away with not, but all the benefits make it worthwhile.

1. Better ride when off-road from airing down
2. More traction with your tires from airing down.
3. Less likely to get a puncture and a flat tire when your air down.
4. You won't sink in soft sand as much when your air down.

Heat buildup in the tires is what you need to avoid. The lower pressure you have in the tire the more the tire flexes as you drive. The faster you drive to hotter the tire gets.

So at 20 psi I would keep my bronco below 65 mph. If you are at a lower psi you need to keep to a lower top speed. So as a guess 15 psi maybe keep it under 45 mph. On a really hot day your tires would get hotter so you may want to go slower then too. And if your bronco is carrying more weight you would want to go slower. The longer you drive at high speed the more heat can build up.

Also even if your tire is fine with the psi and speed you are driving you will need to be more careful driving because the lower pressure changes the handling.

Have fun on the trail.

You don’t need to drop to 25 on fire roads.

My commute involves several miles of dirt/gravel with a mixture of potholes and washboard surfaces in some places.

I run at stock air pressure. Not really a big deal at all.
Agree with bassist. For work, we regularly run fire roads and rutted mountain roads at road PSI 37-38 PSI.
If you will be encountering larger rock outcropping and muddy/snowy fire roads, we would drop to 22 (Sandy) -28 (Snow Slush) PSI. As others have commented, a compressor is a notably worthy investment.

Yes, I love mine. Personally find it easier than messing around with on board compressor installs. Works better than any cheaper plug in air compressor I ever had also!

Hoping I can ask here. What is the recommended road tire pressure for a 38" Nitto Trail Grappler M/T? My Raptor came with them. I've been used to running 33" KO2's on my Jeeps. I ran those slightly lower than the door sticker tag, which made the vehicles roll better.

I do have a portable air compressor.

Sorry if I hijacked, I'll open another thread if needed.

TIA,
-Jav

Have you tried chalk testing it? I've seen write ups doing the math on trying to justify the lower pressure (I think) you can run E-load tires at versus C load when recommended by a manufacturer. A lot of people will swap load rating but not alter PSI. When I had load Es on my 4Runner I definitely ran them at least 3 or 4 psi below factory recommended and it did make for a bit less harsh ride.

My thinking is you wouldn't want them much higher than the low 30s, but I may be way off base. I think some folks have demonstrated that the 38 psi is actually too much for the BFG KO2s also and probably more a product of Ford trying to optimize fuel economy ratings.

I kind of want the new Toyo Open Country RT Pros to replace my BFGs once they are readily available, but this would also necessitate going to an E-load.

hi, every time I’ve been off-road I have not lowered the tire pressure on my bronco because I’m scared of ruining the tires when I’m back on road, since I have no compressor (getting the american advanture labs one soon) so there is no point in getting a portable one right now.
tomorrow morning im doing some moderate offroading and want to lower the tire pressure, but i will have to drive an hr back to the nearest pump (costco)
whats the lowest i can do for onroad driving?
Don’t air down if you can’t air up when done. Period.

I'm comfortable at 45 mph on 15 psi for many miles to air up. No hard turns and no heavy throttle, no problem. I'm sure many will say "oh no way that's crazy". Evidence says it's fine.
