I engaged the rear locker for the first time on some snow/ice near the house to see how they operate. The locker stayed engaged after powering off the switch, even with backing up a short distance of ~10ft. Are these lockers "sticky" ie, need a good distance in reverse to disengage?

You don't have to reverse at all to disengage the locker, and in fact that perhaps may have been inhibiting it from unlocking. I've never done anything but tap the buttons while moving forward.

There's a very light spring in there for release so it can take a little drunk swerving to get it to let go on a solid surface. I accidently engaged the locker on my F250 at a gas station and had to bark tires for 20-30 feet while sawing the wheel to get it let go. Try gently steering slightly left then right and it should let go when the tires match speed. No reversing required.

Mine always immediately disengage; it may tell me to release the accelerator to engage though.

Here is a great breakdown - Locker Deep Dive

The design of the locker naturally keeps it locked/engaged while under throttle. Once you let off power, it will be able to disengage from its internal spring pressure

Be very cautious of engaging the lockers on snow and ice! Use it if you're "stuck" with one tire spinning, but be very careful driving with the locker engaged. Very easy to break the rear end loose and spin out if you suddenly hit a patch of ice especially on a curve.

Agreed. Lockers for offroad only, unless stuck in deep snow/ ice.

You just need to relive the binding between the two wheels. once that happens it should release, just depends on terrain and direction you turn how long it takes to release.

Yes, mine does that after coming off the beach, I have to keep driving some hundred yards for disengagement to complete, as well as ending 4WD . . . I go to 2H and keep driving straight. If I make a turn right after disengagement, it will crab.
