2023 2.7L/AT badsquatch with a little under 36k miles and the 'check brake system' warning message along with the brake light staying on occurred 3x as I was running errands this morning. I never lost braking power but headed to the dealership after the first occurrence. It popped up and cleared itself two more times before I reached the dealer. I should hear back from them on my diagnosis tomorrow.

Of course, the dealer said 'no fault found with ppt abs diag dtc c-0049-1 ppt L - ppt p-1 through p-14.' They checked & reseated some connector wires, topped off the brake fluid & cleared codes. retest passed

I've got close to 100 miles since the service and no issues so far. Fingers crossed ;)

... and back to the dealer I go. The warning popped up three of four times this morning while driving on the freeway.

I finally got my bronco back from the dealership yesterday. They replaced the master cylinder. They had to order the part 2x because the first one that Ford sent out did not fit. They think it was a manufacturing defect as the part number was the same between the two they ordered. Service tech said this was the first time their dealership had run into anything like this on a Bronco.

That's wild, was there a stored fault code, or how did they diagnose? Also now that it's been 10 days, has the warning come back on again? Thanks

Code on my paperwork was DTC C0049 which seems to often be described as "Brake Fluid - Low Fluid Level" or "Brake Fluid (Subfault)."

I've put about 250 miles on since the repair with some water / mud crossing included and no issues so far.

Does anyone know why this vacuum line replacement part 2420 is NOT covered under Ford's Premium Care Extended Warranty - or - why this vacuum seal issue is NOT covered directly by Ford? Seems the issue is well documented (NHTSA: ID 10226759) and a TSB, not a result of normal wear and tear, and a huge safety issue. I have 43K miles on my 2022 2.3 OBX and am experiencing similar issues.. including the brake pedal pushing back up at me when stopped at a light.

With auto start/stop on, when I am at a light and apply the brake, the engine shuts off, the pedal will slowly push back up at me until it reaches a certain height at which time the engine will restart and the pressure pushing back up at me will be released and the pedal will go back down. This will recur every time I stop at a light.. Check braking system light comes, including audible tone.

Dealer charged me $199 to 'diagnose' the issue only to tell me it is not covered. I dont trust that the dealer has my best interests in mind and may not be advocating on my behalf regarding the extent of what is required for the 'fix' to my braking system.. Dealer said part is #MB3Z2420. Subsequently, Dealer wants to charge me ~$700. Same Dealer who just changed my oil and didnt secure the oil cap so found oil sprayed all over my engine compartment.... How can I trust them..

Last Friday my Bronco threw the "Check Brake System" warning. I took it into the dealer Monday with a copy of the service bulletin. Described to the service rep that what happened exactly matches the SB and that it is most likely the vacuum line. Two days later and after a $185 diagnostic fee, I'm told that it is the vacuum line and that, since my Bronco has more than 36,000 miles, Ford won't cover it. The total cost will be $185 (diagnostic fee), $110 (parts) and 1 hour shop time--over $500 total for a known design/manufacturing flaw in the brake system.

Frustrated I told the rep that maybe it was time to trade my Bronco for a 4Runner, since Ford won't stand behind their product. He was surpisingingly supportive of that, basically acknowledging that Ford's quality and support is lacking. I'm not blaming the dealership. They've given me a couple breaks for other issues.

The bottom line is I've lost confidence that my Bronco will be reasonably reliable in the long term and that it won't leave me stranded in the wilds, 100 miles from pavement. There is a lot I love about my 2 door Bronco and it was supposed to be the last 4x4 I bought, but dependability is extremely important to me and I know I'll get that with a 4Runner. I have a trip planned in 3 weeks which will very likely be the last with my Bronco. This sucks.

Sorry I see it's not just happening to me, MoabRox and Threepretzvals.

I just had this on my 2021 Bronco. "Check Brakes" error popup on the dashboard. I found all the SSMs on this common, known failure pointing to a faulty vacuum line (like TSB SSM 50472). I took it to my dealer guess what? "That part is not covered." they tell me.

I argued that this is a known problem, I've had TONS of problems the first 2 years on my new Bronco, so much so FORD kindly gave me a free 3 year extension on the 36K mile waranty. Now I'm into that one, at 39K miles, and of course the part and labor is mysteriously "not covered" in the ESP!

How can this be?! I had the same problem 25 years ago with my new Taurus SHO. It would need a new brake booster pump at 10,000 miles. I'd take it in, the dealer would sadly say, "that part is NOT COVERED". EVERY part that I've ever had FAIL on a Ford when in ESP is "not covered!" What is the deal with this, it smells like a clever racket....and did back in 1995 too.

UPDate - after I made a very strong case for how this is not a "normal wear item" or "not a covered part", my dealership paid for the repair.

Still having same issue with mine (since September last year). Now warning message and brake light comes on several times a week "check brake system". Might drop it at the dealer indefinitely. Around 10K miles on ours now.

This happened to me last night, 1 year old Bronco 2.3L. Stiff pedal after the brake warning light. Pressing it again, could feel something give away, and got normal power brake feel again. I took it to the dealer, they had looked up the codes, ordered a vacuum valve part. Coming this week.
Did this get fixed I’ve had mine almost 3 years and started a few months ago 75k on it

Mine has done this a few times and the last couple days and is now coming on consistently after about 15-20 minutes of driving.

Is there a TSB for this issue on the 2.7?

This came on and stayed on last week, and I had some free time so I dropped the bronco at the dealer and let them know about this and the six or so other things I want looked at before the warranty expires.

I didn't expect much but got a call from the service advisor friday afternoon with an update. She said the tech unplugged the connector to the brake fluid level sensor and cleaned the contacts, then the brake warning light was on all the time. He looked up the part number for the level sensor and it is listed as obsolete with no replacement p/n. They are looking into the parts catalog to see if they have to order a larger part to replace and get the level sensor. They're supposed to give me another update today, but seems like there may be a TSB and revised part number for the fluid level sensor coming soon.

SSM 51201 2021-2022 Bronco - 2.3L - Intermittent Illuminated Brake Warning Lamp With DTC P050F In The ABS Module
Some 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles equipped with the 2.3L engine may exhibit a red brake warning lamp and brake system warning message in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P050F in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module. This may be accompanied by an intermittent firm brake pedal after driving for long periods at highway speeds. This may be due to improper sealing of an internal diaphragm within a brake booster vacuum line. To correct this condition, replace the vehicle's vacuum line with the latest version service part number MB3Z-2420-H or later. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-09 for installation instructions. For claiming, use casual part 2420.
Is this covered by the warranty?my ford dealership is wanting me to pay for the diagnostic test and that’s bs!

It should be, but if they can't recreate or something they'll charge a diag fee.

If you have the DTC stored they should be pointed to the TSB. Some dealers are hit and miss. When i had an xterra i had to print out the TSBs and give them to the nissan dealer because they wouldn't bother to look anything up.

As an update to my above post with the 2.7, the tech replaced the plug for the brake level sensor and it fixed the issue, there was apparently a bent pin in the connector.
