Brake Light and Check Brake System

Is this covered under warranty? My local mechanic and i changed the pads and routers. Will this void a certain warranty? This seems to be the exact issue i am currently going through.

Pads and rotors are wear items, so no warranty issues with you changing them out yourself.. And, not related to this issue anyway...

And the issue is in the 2.3's Vacuum system, not the the actual brakes themselves, so changing the Pads and rotors wouldn't have any effect on it.

So, if that's the problem you're having, yes, it should be covered.

Hey, not sure if this is reviving a dead thread but I wasn't willing to make a new post for the same issue.

Had the same warning pop up for me too: after a moderate off-road trip, a few dozen km's down the highway I got the same warning. Didn't think much of it as turning it off and back on again made the warning go away. I even cleared the error codes in FORSCAN yesterday.

Fast forward a week later (today) and I got the warning again on the highway. No noticeable difference in braking, but weird that it came up again.

Difference between mine is that I've already done over 40,000km, and I only now got the warning. Should I take it into the dealership and expect it to still be a vacuum line issue? Or might it be trail damage?

Same issue with me. 2022 2 door base 2.3l automatic with 14k miles. Taking it to dealer on Wednesday 6/5/24. Was driving in the highway and light came on. Parked it and started it back up and light stayed on.

UPDATE:

The light eventually turned off. I still brought it in. They said the computer stored the code and they were able to find it and it’s the exact issue and resolution described in this thread. Ford has a bulletin the dealership has access to and the solution was to replace the vacuum hose. All covered under warranty. EVEN IF THE LIGHT GOES AWAY BRING IT IN.

Nope! I brought it in today and the dealer fixed the issue. I am picking it back up soon. If I experience the issue again I will respond to this thread and will bring it back to the dealer. Let me know if you would still like my VIN.

I appreciate you posting this. I am taking mine into Ford this afternoon for a separate issue I will show them my pic from yesterday and the thread on here.

I had the same experience yesterday with my 2.3 Big Bend 8k miles. Did the vacuum part fix it?

Did ford replace this vacuum sensor part for free considering it’s obviously a common issue? Mine is doing the same thing and they said it will be $1,000 to fix. It’s a 2022 with $36,000 miles.

Same just happened to mine today. Light came on but no obvious issues with brake system while driving, yet I noticed when I turn it back on, brake has to be pressed harder while pushing the start button. I put in a call to local service dept and awaiting call back

The exact same thing is happening to my 2022 Bronco. They are saying it’s the vacuum sensor. Did they fix this for you at no

Hey guys. I'm having the same issue. The light came on and I couldn't start my car the first time since I couldn't depress the brakes, but then it went away. The second time I was driving down a mountain and the dam light came on. Scary as fudge, since I had my whole family in the car. I took my car to Sunrise Ford and they swapped a sensor and reset the code. Drove it to school and light came on again on the freeway. I pulled over again. I drove it back to the dealer only an hour after leaving. @Ford Motor Company this is scary. My wife and my kids were in the car with me. Also, the dealers did a stupid sensor swap, that didn't fix the issue. My car has been at the dealer for about 2 weeks now. What's going on?

I had this same alert and issue pop up the other day on my 2024 OBX. I have an appointment for 7/16 to have it checked out. All braking seems "normal" but this occurred on the highway as well.

Question for all those who have had this pressure/vacuum issue.... After reading about possible causes to the fault code, I started trying to pay closer attention to the brake pedal stiffness.
One thing i always noticed was, at a stop light, the truck doesnt stay "off" very long and will often times turn right back on... which i thought was weird. Then the last couple of days, I started paying attention more closely. When the truck turns off (auto start/stop) the brake pedal is spongy and goes down pretty easily, but the longer you sit there with it off, the more the brake pedal starts to stiffen and push back. Previously, it would just push itself back up and trigger the vehicle to turn back on, which then makes the pedal soft again. when i started pushing back against the pedal, the truck stays off longer... after a while its a good quad workout.
My question was, for the people that have experienced this brake system fault, did getting it fixed change how the auto start stop worked or the brake pedal inconsistent stiffness?
Is my experience with auto start/stop and the brake pedal issue related at all to the fault and experiences others have had?

When experiencing this on the highway, did you have cruise control engaged? Can't remember if it was in this thread or another, but some folks had a theory that being in cruise control with the engine being in boost (0.5-1PSI) for extended periods to maintain speed could possibly cause a lack of vacuum in the braking system.

no, i was not in cruise control but i was going over 45, so the lane keeping kicked in. Driving around the streets at normal speeds, it never warns me. When it did occur, i pulled off and checked the brakes and they were working fine. I have noticed the inconsistency in the brake stiffness. mostly when getting in to push button start and not pressing the pedal hard enough. Its inconsistent. Hopefully all of that will be fixed.

I am having this very same issue with my 2021 Black Diamond. I just sent my service advisor an email with this information in hopes of finally getting this solved. When I reported it to them at previous service appointments they had no clue what I was describing or talking about.

I had this same issues on my 2024. Two days back to back on the expressway. Got an appointment two weeks later.
The fault went away and hasn’t Returned yet.
When I brought it in they couldn’t reproduce it. Said there was a stored code from 16 days ago but didn’t replace or service anything. Not sure what my recourse would be. On the plus side it was my first service and they did replace the turning signal stalk as it was flipping from right to left on right turns.

Just had this issue today. I was driving home this morning after a 12 hour night shift at about 70-75 mph down a 3 lane major interstate and the check brake system message came up and the red brake light came on. I stepped on the brake pedal and had no brakes whatsoever. Scared the crap out of me. After slowing down by just not using the gas I tried the brakes and nothing and after pumping them a few times they kicked in. I’ve turned the car on and off several times and the message pops up and the light stays on.
