Will I regret not adding an oil catch can sooner?

I've got about 38k on my '22, just happened to pick up a "used" Mishimoto catch can setup (allegedly) for like 40% of the best price via an Amazon used deal. If it is a fake, it is really convincing, like it would cost more to make the fake bags and labels for everything. Everything looks new except someone opened the bag with the hoses. Never installed as far as I can tell.

I drive my Bronco like a sports car that the heart of it comes from on the street, trail runs once a month if I am lucky enough.

Is this a bit like closing the barn door after the cows are already in the field?

You're not too late.

Valvoline ran two 2.3L for 500,000 miles each probably without catch cans since they were stock.

Here's the teardown.

Yeah, simple enough, change the oil regularly.......use synthetic. I'm at 2.5 years and coming up on my warranty (36k miles). My plan with the Bronco goes back and forth, normally I run a vehicle until it's pretty much dead (XJ - 240k miles, JK-190k miles). I'm finding myself more and more wanting a truck just to carry my surf/mtb gear easier, but........keep coming back to how much fun the Bronco is.

More than likely - I will get it to somewhere in the 150k mile range, and then retire it to top off all of the time/nice weather/local trips only, and get a truck for camping/longer trips/interstate driving. I change oil every 5k with synthetic.

No, never too late. Now I don't change oil every 3K (like my dad taught us), but I do add catch cans to vehicles as one of the 1st options & they do work. Pretty much full (can) at 7K-8K oil change cycles. Even my Harley fills up. :D

In the '22 2.3 dirty side can really works after 3000 miles id get about two table spoons...on the new gen 2.3s I wouldn't bother.

The main consequence (assuming it works as advertised) of running without a catch can is dirty valves sooner. This takes a long time before it really affects anything, and can be mitigated somewhat with a higher quality oil changed more often.
If you're really concerned, there are some intake cleaning products/services out there that aren't quite as involved as walnut blasting. It can be kinda hard to tell what is and isn't snake oil in that vein, but whatever it is should be introduced as close to the actual valves as possible in the intake tract.
I do not run a catch can currently - I've done one precautionary intake clean and plan to have the valves cleaned professionally somewhere down the line.

e: Not relevant to OP's case, but catch cans are also much less relevant on '25+ 2.3L engines due to the added port fuel injection, which cleans the valves with fuel where the direct-injection only '21-'24 can't reach.

Never to late. I run about 80% stop-and-go or wheeling with my 2.7L and change oil every 3K miles. I get about a tablespoon in my can every oil change. I figure I have saved a 1/4 cup of oil going through my valves so far.

I'm the same way. I was about to trade my Bronco on a Ranger. They offered a heck of a deal offering me more than the MSRP I paid for my Base Bronco. The entire deal would have been only $3K out of pocket to trade my 3 year old Bronco for a new 24 Ranger XLT. When it came time to sign I couldn't do it. The Ranger would have been more practical for sure, but its just a pickup like millions of others. That was one year ago, glad I stayed with the Bronco. I can rent a pickup when I need one.

Yeah ditto, I was $4k differential between it and a '25 Tacoma TRD Off Road, I actually went through and put a deposit in and they couldn't get it from another dealer. I was a little upset, but a little relieved because I did not want to see the Bronco roll away to another owner. It's just so much fun to drive, probably the last manual I'll be able to buy new, etc.

The issue comes in where the truck would make more sense to be newer, and a Bronco/Jeep for beach, short trips. I'm still on the fence, the Ranger I didn't look at as much, but probably should.

Yeah, I know, I'm honestly (hopefully) not really worried about the drivetrain that much. I know that's the crux of this conversation, so good point.

I added the Ford Performance (or I guess Ford Racing now? idk) ones at about 20k miles. Up to 45k now and there's always an ounce or so of oil in them when I clean them every 5k miles. Agree that it's never too late!
