Tire Pressure Question

Every time I leave the dealership, my tire pressure is a crapshoot. Literally all 4 tires are on different numbers. Is this normal? Running 35” Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

I mean they're within 3 lbs of each other, so they're actually pretty close. But I get it - I'm picky as well and like them to be within 1 lb of each other. They are on my truck.

That said, if I check them after my truck has been sitting at work all day, one side will be 3-4 lbs higher than the other until I drive for a bit. Then they'll even out.

Depending on the tech who does your tire rotation, they might not even be checking the final pressure, or they might not be checking their tools to make sure they're reading the same. It is possible for a tire pressure gauge to be non-repeatable, in which case it should be thrown out. I have a couple old Miltons that are still repeatable and accurate.

The other side is that the monitors may not all read exactly the same - they are electronic, mass-produced items. I trust my Miltons over those, but I still like it when they all read close to the same.

Only real way to know is to get a good tire gauge and check the tires.

Normal if two tires are facing the sun. After work my tire pressures are staggered somewhat, but after driving theyll even out. Course I live in AZ so it's obvious which tires were getting more sunlight.

Pretty normal. When I add or relieve some pressure my tire gauge always shows my 37psi but vehicle shows 1 or 2 tires 1-2 lbs higher. As BroncoChallenger stated above, I think the tire monitors may have a bit of variation also.

Tire pressure easily varies by 1-5 lbs depending on temperature. Temperature changes from being driven, from sitting in the sun, etc.

This is nothing to worry about.

If it's close to the pressure you like to run, I would leave them. I have mine at 39 when hot. They are at around 37 or 38 in the morning. Door sticker is 39 (SAS tires).

When I picked up mine from the dealer, they were around 48 psi. So the first thing I did when I got home was take them down to 39. That was in the middle of a hot summer day, so a little less in the morning.

They fluctuate a lot. Dealer will over inflate them unless asked to leave them alone. Like to keep mine here. Could be different tomorrow.

Here's my weird contribution. I do a 5 tire rotation around every 5K, yet my right front always seems to run a pound or so lower every time. It can't be the wheel or the tire. Something in the suspension maybe that affects pressure?

Common thing. The larger the tire, the harder it is to dial in pressure, so if it's close to the "street number" (39psi) at all 4 corners, you're pretty good.

If you want to get it as accurate as possible, best to check first thing in the morning when the tires are cold and not warmed to street temp.

At the dealership or even when leaving the trail, it's impossible to get it right because driving warms the tire and increases pressure by up to 3-4psi. So, the most accurate will be when tires are cold and not in full sun.

The wheel and suspension have nothing to do with it. If it's always the right front, that's not the sensor either. Not really a big deal to have it a pound difference. Though I'd probably top it off to make my OCD happy.

Maybe check it with a known good tire gauge as well.

A little OCD for me, also. I bought an independent sensor package that attaches sensors to the valve stems. It tells me pressure and temperature so I can watch changes in real time. This little device backs up the weirdness I've experienced. I've checked the device against the internal sensor and they match (more or less, I have seen some very minor variation). I see this strange sensor phenomenon even when airing up with a 4-tire inflation system.

Met a guy at an ORV park once who lent me his 4 way hose that filled all tires at once. Maybe the only time my tires have been even.

Thinking about building/buying one just because I’m OCD.

I have the MoRRflate 4 way with just a Schrader valve on top not the gauge. I fill my tires with my compressor and check the pressure with a gauge at that schrader valve. It is usually within a pound of what the dash reads. But usually 1 tire is off until I Drive a bit. I just figure there is some slop in the sensor’s accuracy.
