Both of my Bronco's ,23 and 24 year models, will randomly turn off the recirculation button and allow fresh air in the cabin. Fresh air is great unless you get behind a stinking diesel! Any ideas why they do this?

From the manual:

"Note: Recirculated air may turn off automatically, or prevent you from switching on in all air flow modes except MAX A/C to reduce the risk of fogging. Recirculation may also turn on and off automatically in various air distribution control combinations to improve heating or cooling efficiency."

Many cars have a similar feature, not just Broncos.

I gotta admit, I've always known it to be this way when using heat and not this way with A/C, so I decided to trust Google and here's what i found.

Thanks for the replies! I guess the vehicles are too smart for our own good!

“Fogging” is code for “we didn’t want to dedicate more time and resources into developing a recirc system that prevents the cabin from smelling like a stagnant pond mixed with ass, so it will randomly turn off to prevent condensation.”

Or at least that’s my interpretation

Opposite problem. I never purposefully run recirc, but sometimes it will engage itself when in AC mode.

Recirculate is always going to default on with A/C. That's how it's supposed to work.

I hate it cause if Im driving on the interstate at 75 with settings on low then the recirc opens and now im blasted with air
The recirculate issue is one of the stupidest "features" of the Bronc... right up there with the "keep both hands on the wheel" message and chime that pops up when you have both hands firmly on the wheel, but happen to be on a straight stretch of road for more than a few seconds (if anyone knows how to turn that off, let me know).

The recirculate issue just makes no sense. I don't want or need to run A/C mode all the time. Fogging?? That's what the defrost function is for. What about people with respiratory or allergy issues that can be affected by smoke, pollen, etc. Not to mention random noxious odors from vehicles, dead animals...

Don't get me wrong, I like my Bronco quite a bit. But I don't like some of the "nanny features."

As I've noted in other posts on here, "automatic features tend to screw up automatically."

In every other vehicle I've owned... and I'm of an age where I've had a lot of them over the years of all makes/models and price points... recirc comes on by default only when running "max A/C" mode. It is not always the default for all A/C modes. In "normal A/C" mode recirc is usually not the default.

Ah well... first world problem, I guess. In the end, I'm just thankful to have A/C!

There is a setting for the driver alert that you can shut it off, I know I have seen it, but I couldn’t walk you through it without looking at the screen. Check your settings and if you can’t Find it I will look through them on my Bronco so I can help walk you through it.

It's a good mode when top is off on hot day and run AC on full blast to keep comfortable......I do it all the time and it's great!
