I too would love the idea of a swing out bumper but it seems like there are so many obstacles to overcome with one. Usually, like the JCR bumper, it puts the spare high to the point of obstructing a lot of your vision out of the rear window. Also, because the pivot point is so far from the weight of the tire or the spare cans, the pivot assembly itself has to be super overbuilt... and that makes the overall weight of the bumper way up there. Then there's the need for greaseable pivots, and then overbuilt latches that don't soon become rattle traps after a few hundred miles. If a manufacturer comes out with a step design in the bumper so that the spare is located lower and is still able to pivot out that would be appealing. Then there's the cost... A decent swing out bumper with all the things we'd like to have such as a spare tire carrier and a provision for spare fuel cans would be at least $3,000. Additionally, for folks like me that have dogs that go wheeling, having to stop for every break and then opening the rear of the vehicle in three stages gets old. The hammer built design is a good addition for someone who wants to keep the weight fairly low at about 135 lb all in with a 35 and an aftermarket wheel (including 6 gallons of gas). Our factory tailgate limit is 133, but I imagine with the Raptor hinges and the tailgate reinforcement plate 135 is not an issue.
Ha, I’m sold! I’m looking forward to their solution coming to market with their version of the Raptor hinges.

I forget, has HammerBuilt provided an estimated schedule for the release of the HD hinge / reinforcement plate?

Blown away by all the positive feedback from everyone!
Rest assured, all existing Hammer Built fans will get a special upgrade discount when we release the Bronco Raptor Reinforcement+HD Hinges! Additionally, the accessory arm and antenna bracket will carry over.

Tomorrow I will make a special preorder page for the new bracket that will make you eligible to receive the first batch of hinges when they are completed. We are expecting pricing for the hinges to be around $299 per pair.

(Ultra light Sceptre/Jery can mount will be released next week!)
Love my 1st Gen Hammerbuilt plate and can't wait for the accessories!

Pretty soon I predict...I sent some measurements for final tweaks this morning to their metal magician. They already have a set of Raptor hinges on hand to compare with what they intend to produce.

we can have cnc hinges very quickly (1-2 weeks) for those in a hurry(pm me), the molds for the cast aluminum hinges will take a up to a month or two until we see our first production run.
Still working on pricing, when I have some hard numbers I will post up a pre order page with a Bronco6G discount on the HD new system.

If you already have the oem raptor bronco hinges, the bracket is undergoing final revisions next week and will be ready to ship early November.

Hey great job, OP.

I'm still fairly surprised there are ZERO entries into the re-hinge aftermarket, considering how many things have been built to add weight back there. I guess it'll just take some more time, but this is still the best option by a long shot!
Technically there is at least one aftermarket hinge that I've seen- RTR's tailgate kit- but you have to drop big coin because 1. It's RTR and 2. The tubular support assembly is pretty involved vs plates others are making.

The factory hinges work quite well, especially with the Hammer Built supports. Don’t believe any manufacture thinks there’s a market for just the hinges.

Ford thinks so...they install them as OEM on the Raptor because they know that the big 37 hanging off of there is going to eventually have some negative impact. If you buy the RTR plate or the Banff plate they transfer any sort of load directly on to the hinges. RTR at least makes a better hinge, because they too understood that the hinge is the weak link, but by the time you buy that setup and the Jerry can carrier and the bracket it close to $2,000. The reason I went down the hinge rabbit hole was because I simply wanted a Jerry can carrier, but the only way to mount one on the two-door is to something on or near the hinges. I was thrilled that Tyson is offering a solution that is far lighter than the RTR setup and far less expensive. Hammer Built is still going to offer their plate for OEM hinges but they're also going to offer more robust hinges for those who seek them and a plate that works with those hinges. The main reason I didn't want to use my OEM hinges wasn't necessarily because of the strength, but because all the tailgate plates out there share the holes that attach the plate with the holes in the nut plates...and several people have commented that they've knocked off the nut plates from the inside of the tailgate while installing. With the Raptor hinges, you install the hinges and then it's a done deal. Then you can install the plate to the hinges with separate tapped holes. Additionally, instead of the arched radius surface of the OEM hinges, the Raptor hinges are flat mounting surfaces (no need for conical washers or spacers).

If anyone is interested in the Raptor hinges there's an oem Ford website that sells at just over their cost (and I believe Tyson is going to offer an upgrade in either aluminum or cast iron even cheaper than the Raptor ones). I bought my hinges and the HOSS 3.0 tie rod inner and outers from that website and it was much easier to recover from the sticker shock than from any local dealer.

Post it up or PM the link! You’ve got me seriously considering this setup.

Has anyone been able to reattach the nut plate after it falls inside the tailgate? It just happened to me and don't know what to do

I was told one can use a magnet on the end of a semi rigid line (like thick weed eater line) and fish the plate into approximate place that way...the tailgate is aluminum so the magnet should pick up the plate without sticking to the sides.
