New Style Oil Drain Plug?

Like others have said the fumoto and Ronin valves are really great. Only downside I could say is that the oil drain is way slower than pulling the entire plug out. I originally thought I would use the little hose and drain the oil without removing the lower engine skid plate, but that ended up being a giant pain and it's way easier to remove the skid plate. Also helps to get all the mud and rocks out of there that accumulate.

I'll take inconveniently slow over "old faithful, but sideways in a 10 square foot spray pattern and made of toxin laden oil"

Thanks for the clarification. It sounds like you definitely felt something unusual when you tried the UPR plug.

I did some more digging on this and this is what I found: Ford made a running change to the plastic oil pans and drain plug designs for late-build 2025 and newer 3.0L Bronco Raptor engines. If you are working on an updated 2025+ model, the twist-in plug design may be different from the earlier versions, and older aftermarket plugs may require too much force to turn or fit improperly.

It's weird the the UPR plug gave you problems but the Ronin one does not bit I'm glad you found an aftermarket model that works.

Sounds on par to what I found, pan did change somewhat along with plug. I didn’t know the degree of changes that you discovered… but does verify the ‘25 upward, particularly the 3.0 BRaptor.

When I spoke with Ronin group, they were aware of the change and resigned their plug to fit old and new pans. Which is the Ver2, that I was Indicting. In my opinion, that’s quality to address a change quickly.

I’m fond of the Fomoto in my other past & present rigs… I’m tempted to change pan in BRaptor to an aluminum pan and Fomoto valve. Priority is just low on the list.

Mainly use to pull Oil Samples between Oil changes, and Ronin is serving that need.

I have a late build 25, I bought a Dorman plug from Napa just to have a spare, I guess it won't work? Does anybody have the serial # break when the new pan/plug went into use?

I don’t have serial break… although the design of the plug signifies the change. The OEM 2 O-Ring design I believe is the indicator of new design of plug & pan. Mine is Dec 2025 with 2 O-Ring.

Right on! I agree.

I would love an aftermarket pan for the 2.7. I haven't even researched to see if anything viable exists as it's pretty low on my priority mod list for the Bronco and in a year or so I'm starting a new build project and will be diverting my time and money to that anyway.

For whats it’s worth, my 2025 factory 2.7 drain plug started seeping slightly around 22k after 5 dealer oil changes. It was replaced under warranty and I got a free oil change out of it.

Same… my main builds & pastime are Super Duty Dually’s. Currently converting one to all 6 aluminum 22’s, and taking Carli 4” out and replacing with Carli 2” suspension. Pusher Tubes, SPE Intercooler, Case Oil Mount conversion, etc… all in boxes waiting for next project. But makes for some enjoyable DIY for old Guy.

Right now I'm torn between an older datsun Z resto mod/LS swap type of project, a newer infiniti q50 build aiming for right around 600hp, or a Jeep Trackhawk build (moderate build, looking at the 800-850 hp range). So mamy cool cars, so little time. Lol

Loved the old 240 / 260Z’s. Beautiful Cars!
Had a bright orange 240Z… large flares, huge air damn nose & whale tail. Was on a Az Insurance (General) commercial back in 90-91. Always sync’ing the side draft carbs, required tinkering constantly.

Best of luck on the build up! I’d go Mouse tucked into 240Z… in today’s environment that would be awesome… sound & performance!

Interesting. I have a 2024 so I shouldn't have a problem at all anyway. The fit was perfect. What did they change about the oil pans in 2025? I don't think they changed the pans, just the plugs so there shouldn't be a reason they dont fit. Maybe @Ducati1098 can chime in?

I don’t have any experience with aftermarket plugs, but the only change made the oil pan was back in mid 2023, and that was before any drain plug change was made.

Not sure what they changed, but it was well before they updated the plug to a different style. So there shouldn’t be anything preventing a plug from working on a 21-24, but not a 25+

All the bronco plastic plugs and pans are interchangeable as far as how the plug fits.
