Why.......?
I've seen several clips where people are changing the oil plug at an oil change interval.
This seems ridiculous if you clean and put back at the recommended torque.
Am I missing something????

plastic pan, plastic plug...it's like changing the oil before 10K. Cheap insurance.

Yes, my 2.7 pan and plug are plastic. If you're torquing it down, you're doing it wrong.

my plug never gets removed. Ford mobile service van sucks the oil out through the dipstick tube. If you got lifetime oil changes when you bought it, the mobile service option is included.

I replace the drain plug once.........with a Fumoto F107SX drain valve (2.3L). Then, draining oil is easy peasy forever and ever.

The threads wear on oil pan plugs. I suspect plastic ones wear faster.

I just use a cork. If it's good enough for my wine it's good enough for my oil.
You may need some more wine when that cork falls out while you're on the highway and completely destroys your engine from lack of lubrication. The upside is you'll have more corks 🤷‍♂️

You’ve never changed your oil on your Bronco or an Ecoboost motor with plastic pan, right?

There are no conventional threads, the plug is sealed with an O-ring and the ‘ears’ on the plug engage with the pan to secure it in place. See the UPR billet version in post #4.

For me it is more about the functionality/mess with the plastic drain plug. I will be replacing at the next oil change.

Lots of threads on this topic already but I replaced it during my second oil change. They are cheap anyway so why not each time. I’m not a fan of the aftermarket ones myself but many swear by them.

I thought the same but then ordered a 3-pack on Amazon. They're indistinguishable from the Ford ones and only 8 bucks for a 3 pack. I replace the drain plug every 2nd oil change, my rationale is they're plastic and plastic becomes brittle with age and heat. Cheap insurance.

Negative. The plastic ones don’t wear out at all. They aren’t typical threads.
The metal one on the 2.3 will never wear out as long as some lubie isn’t over tightening the crap out of it lol

Absolutely cheap insurance.

I thought everyone knew that about plastic.
