So I just rotated tires, unfortunately never used the spare in the rotation. I am about half way through the thread on the factory tires I believe. I found the front left tire has big chunk in a tread block that looks like it’s now exposing some radial threads.

Do you think this is safe?

If I throw the spare on it’s got full thread and I am not sure that is going to work that well given about half the thread is gone.

I wheel 4/5 days a month aired down to about 14 psi, so it mostly sees trails and highway only.

The other option is get the 37” I wanted now which I was hoping to hold off on until next year

That is kind of what happens when you wheel in the rocks I'd guess.

If you've got the cash, get the 37s now. You have a great excuse.

I'm no tire expert, but I wouldn't even think about using that tire at any speed (ie more than like 15 mph limping it somewhere. I'd be concerned of a blow out). Put the spare on for now and go get some 37s. I would just keep your transfer case out of 4A if you have it, in the mean time with the tread difference.

Yeah that tire has been damaged severely. Wheeling in rocks will do that, sometimes finding something nasty in the mud will do that too.

You damaged your tire. Replace it as it’s no longer serviceable.
Goodyear MT are safe to use when not damaged.

That tire is cooked. Looks like it caught something sharp at a high rotational speed and peeled the tread back. The big sin of your GY's is they're softer Load C. If you keep wheeling your GY's, I would recommend keeping it at 18-20psi, so you don't fold your sidewalls, which can lead to a sidewall blowout. But it looks like you're already seeing the effects of being in sharper rocks.

Keep in mind you've got other work and issues if you go to 37s, and that's to gain maybe a 1/2" of clearance/actual height over a set of truer 35's (half in real gain in circumference).

For instance, I've got the Maxxis Razr M/T's that are 34.8" and a noticeable improvement in height and width to the GY's. And I didn't need to get wheel spacers, new rims, or cut anything off. Oh, and they're great in the rocks.

Also, if you're in those kind've rocks that are peeling tread, you'll probably want to get a Load E/F grade tire that has thicker sidewalls. Another thing I like about my M/T's is they have deeper tread, too. The trade off is they'll run louder and be stiffer, but you can also air down further safely.

Tires look cracked and you are now chunking, I would buy tires as the others 3 tires will soon follow. Congratulations! You officially wheel to much and will have to change tires before they wear out!

At the risk of being the lone guy not advising you to buy 37s, your Bronco isn't going to give the slightest shit if the tread difference between tires is 8/32s different if you put the spare on and try to limp the set to next year.

Though if your spare is also weather checked and splitting like the tire pictured...

Buy the 37s.
