I have a 2.7 with lux on a wildtrak (2022). When it gears down on the highway, it actually sounds beefier than I ever expected a 2.7 6cyl to sound. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out that it’s fake engine noise. Doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the stereo to me, it seems like it makes about the same amount of noise no matter what volume level I have my music on, but who knows? I don’t plan on adding any subs that would make my fake engine noise sound any faker anyway, but it still just seems wrong for a tiny V6 to pretend like it’s a V8 by piping in fake engine noise. Like leaving a couple magnum condoms out on the night stand for your guests to see, even though they’d be baggier than MC Hammer’s parachute pants.
In the Raptor it is outright hilarious. Sounds like a V-8 inside. Outside? Like a blender and sowing-machine got drunk and had an illegitimate kid.

It’s probably just how it is installed. I wired the amp in my first car, got the engine wine and that was in the mid 90s- no cars had fake engine noise then. A pro audio installer fixed it.

So, is it really fake engine noise (like the C8 Corvette), or ANC to help cancel out nuisance noise?

It was stupid in my Raptor. Funny stupid. My wife has it in her Explorer ST as well. I honestly haven’t noticed it in my FE Bronco, but maybe that’s because it was so laughable in the Raptor.

If it is piped in it has to be really subtle and as someone pointed out terrible. There is nothing about the sound that is good. Not offensive. Just not good. I don’t care what my vacuum cleaner sounds like either as long as it cleans my f’ing floor.

can't say I have noticed any fake noise - or sowing machine sounds for that matter. BL Sasquatch with Lux. Only time I ever hear anything of the engine is when I accelerate and it's not particularly loud.
I also don't notice any active noise cancelling, are we sure that's installed? I have the soft top and above 75 or so it gets loud, like a cracked open window in the back, but never so bad that I'd have to yell and music can be heard just fine.

Driving with the top open and windows down sounds the same as all buttoned up to me. Not that I ever really paid much attention.

The Mustangs actually have a "sound tube" that pipes the sound through the firewall to behind the dash. I removed mine and plugged the hole.

Hey all,

I installed an aftermarket amp and subs in my 4 door lux OBX, and I'm running into an issue. Whenever I accelerate, my subs give off a hum in time with the engine, and after some googling, I discovered the engine sounds in these is fake/amplified.

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the fake engine sound? Will I have to go through the dealer?

List of equipment used in case anyone's curious:

2 Skar SVR-12s in custom enclosure
Skar RP-1500.d amplifier
Knukonceptz 4 AWG OFC wiring kit
AudioControl LC2i tapped into front kick panel speakers (gonna need to patch into the factory sub wiring, these speakers don't have much bass below 60hz)
If the noise wasn’t present prior to the new install, it’s likely the new equipment. It’s been many decades since I did installs, and back then (79-82), we used radio noise suppressors with much success. After your post I found this troubleshooting guide by Crutchfield. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it doesn't seem conclusive on whether Lux has "enhanced engine sounds" or maybe some sort of ANC or anything else.

I've had the alternator whine on previous installs before. Those typically just required a different grounding spot, and even one just had a bad ground internal to the amp.

What makes me think that what I'm dealing with is a fake engine noise as opposed to ground loop is that there's no whine involved. I can be at 3,000 RPM and not hear a thing. But if I'm accelerating and really give it the beans, the subwoofers give off a low bass frequency. I tried it in my driveway - revved the engine to about 3,500 RPM, and as soon as I stop revving, the bass note is gone, and doesn't subtly go back down as the revs decrease, which is normally the case of any ground loop/alternator whine.

Also disconnected the RCAs from the amp, which are run on the opposite side of the vehicle as the power wire by the way, and the noise was gone. Which still makes me think it's some sort of signal being introduced by the B&O DSP.

I'll see if I can clean up the ground tomorrow, but I don't think that's the issue. I'm using one of the back seat bolts which goes straight to the vehicle chassis. I appreciate the feedback (no pun intended) either way from you folks.

I have the same thing going on with my lux badlands with an aftermarket sub. Noticed the engine like sound starts at around 2300 rpm when accelerating and I can shut it off when I switch the amp off since I have the blue wire tied into an aux switch. I’m convinced it has fake engine noises going on.

Yea, first I’m hearing about fake engine sounds pumped in on the Bronco.
The ST has it but I don’t think the bronco does.
