I have a Stroppe.
I don't know a hockey ball from a football bat.
I'm a pretty big guy and I've been holding my temper
But
If one more grown man comes up to me, says;
"Man, another Denver Broncos fan! How cool!",
then tries to kiss me on the 💋 👄 lips...

I may have to succumb...
Man, I have looked at this askance, sideways, in the mirror and through my legs and I can't make heads or moose knuckles of this comment. We were talkin' soccer...

Oh good, I was hoping a motor oil thread would pop up. Because I need some advice.

My SAS Luxe Badlands just crossed 45K miles and I have never changed my oil.

What oil should I use ? My dipstick is bone dry if that helps.

Soooo for someone who would like to perform his first oil change on a 2.3 now that I've hit 1300 miles......what the hell should I use?! Been on the restore and protect train with my Saab and happy with the performance so far.
A full synthetic oil because it has a turbo. Unfortunately the term “full synthetic” has been bastardized by the courts allowing companies with less than “fully” synthetic products to compete with the same language.

He says as much, but also points out that in at least one important measure it is not quite as good as it used to be - but still way better then Motorcraft 'blend' and most others :ROFLMAO:

I also think he is right to point to supply/geopolitical issues as the source of the change, not GF-7 compliance.

Your probably right.

Honest question - how would you go about it? "It" being the goal of a discussion of the subject without having to wade through 5 pages of "I do X and it ain't blown up on me yet and that's all anybody would want to know!!"

Am I just a Romantic - a dreamer of dreams that a substantive discussion that moves beyond this can be had, somehow, someway?? I am...probably...:)

@Notmattwong , I owe you an apology. I was too harsh and set you up as an example when you did not ask for it.
I accept your apology.
I too need to apologize for calling you autistic. You may or may not be, it’s a spectrum.

This is an article I read about 25 years ago. The oils and vehicle are different, but the methodology and thinking are still sound. This article helped me decide to go to extended oil change intervals on my Subaru once the warranty expired.

I would have posted earlier, but it took me a while to find it. The original site is no longer. Fortunately Brian Schreurs decided to preserve it on his website.

The way I look at it if I go to Walmart and Motorcraft Synthetic Blend oil is 5 quart for $28.97 and a 5 quart for Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is 39.97 along with one additional quart so lets say I am paying 12 dollar more an oil change, so 24 dollars a year. What is the cost to replace a turbocharger or do a timing change replacement if they go bad.

Like I have seen people say in the past, Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is the minimum oil that Ford recommends to get up to the 5 year 60000 mile warranty period, but they also say you can use the Motorcraft Full Synthetic.

It is about the cost that much as one meal at McDonalds nowadays :)

I feel any modern true full synthetic of the specified weight will be fine. I change all my vehicles at 5k. Probably not necessary i modern engines but new oil has to be better than 5k oil. Too many other things to worry about in life.

Likely 95% or more of drivers on the planet are rolling around in vehicles with basic dealer or lube express oil and yet somehow we have avoided global epidemics of engine failure. What I have learned over the years is that won’t stop some enthusiasts from losing sleep over engine oil, micromanaging oil changes on a vehicle that they won’t likely even own long enough to ever test how long the engine will even last.
