If an aftermarket pan with a drain plug is installed would ford deny a warranty claim IF the transmission became faulty during the warranty period?
I worry about this too, especially if you add capacity.

They would have to prove whatever failed, failed strictly because of the new pan. Assuming you’re running their fluid, their filter, at their proper level, I’d have to say it is a long shot that the pan itself would be the reason why 6th gear took a dirt nap on you…

Well I just installed the B&M replacement transmission dipstick (fits perfectly) and the mishimoto transmission pan with amsoil fluid.

I can't say that I'd want to do it again but I'm glad it's done. All that's left is to get it up to temp and mark the level on the new dipstick.

I really appreciate this thread and what everyone has put into it. It was very helpful!
Will be curious how the Amsoil feels. I used it in my 2014 MB E350 via a total flush out and it was a huge improvement overall for that car. Last year when I did the pan, Amsoil didn’t have one that was a perfect match to the ford luv fluid.

It has smoothed out the shifting a lot! Definitely noticable

A total flush sounds nice

Just a heads up for those with the MT, Amsoil recommends that you use their Synthetic DCT Fluid as their replacement for the Ford OEM fluid.

I highly doubt it. A pan is a pan.. depending on the dealer maybe but that check is written by Ford not the dealer. But what do I know, not much. You could always put the old pan back on

The flush is actually cheaper than the drain and fill when you're not pulling the pan and replacing the filter. It's through the transmission cooler lines. Cost me a 5 gallon jug of Amsoil transmission fluid and $150 to the shop for the machine. I had pulled the filter on that car about 20k miles prior to so didn't need to open the pan again.

I got all the stuff in to change the transmission pan and fluid on my wife's Bronco. Went with the PPE standard capacity pan and 9 quarts of Amsoil ULV fluid. I'll probably wait until the end of October to change it all out. Hopefully it'll cool off a little here in SW louisiana. I do all my own maintenance on my vehicles, but I've never tackled a transmission. My wife has got about 42000 on her bronco. Sure hope it works out ok. Sounds like most of you have had good luck. Thanks for all the great info on the forum.

Thought I would share some insights after changing my fluid. The videos linked in the thread are helpful but, like most, leave out the most frustrating parts of the job.

I would say it’s worth paying the dealer $500 unless you plan to change fluid frequently. If so install the aftermarket pan with a drain plug.

I have a 2.7L Badlands and had to drop the swaybar to remove the pan. You also need to loosen or remove the bracket holding the trans cooler hard lines. It is impossible to remove the bolts under those lines. This is the most frustrating part of the job. I had to use a magnet and forceps to start the bolts in the holes when reinstalling. It’s impossible to use a wrench or socket on a couple of the bolts. A ratcheting 8mm wrench is a must. It is also very difficult to get the pan off/on with those hard lines in the way.

I pumped 5qts out and had about 1.5qt in the pan and another qt spilled on the ground. It took 7.5 qts to reach the proper level (between 3 and 4 on the stick at operating temp between 206-210 degrees).

The hot check procedure is no joke. Prepare to suffer. I have a couple of burns from the cat and removing the dipstick plug as it is glowing red after getting the trans up to temp. Also, the only way to do it is torque braking while it’s parked as someone mentioned. I drove 30 minutes city and highway miles and could only get it up to 183. You also have to be quick doing the read. After pulling and wiping the stick it was reading no level at all despite the cold check showing 6. Took a lot of trial and error and multiple added fills but finally got a read just above the 3 mark with approx. 7.5 qts in. Wear a long sleeved shirt and leather gloves if you dare.

Not true on both. The plug is plastic. How could it possibly get glowing hot? Even if your talking about the metallic cover bolt, 200° isn't anywhere near glowing hot.

You can also get the trans up above 205 by driving aggressively without power braking.

I think the cat is red hot

haha. I was referring to the cover bolt and it’s aluminum. Not literally glowing red but hot enough to leave a blister on my finger through a nitrile glove. I’m not big on aggressively shifting a trans on a fresh fluid change so prefer the suggested method of torque braking.

I live near a highway and drove for about 20 min aggressively. Only got to about 200F after I got back and let idle in garage for about 10 min. Don't like the idea of power braking and wearing clutches out. Not sure how techs get it higher.
