At 17,300 miles, did my first fluid exchange since dropping the OEM pan for the PPE standard capacity pan at 15000 miles. It was about a dot low before I drained, so about 5 QTs out and 6 QTs in. This was the level at ~210F after I refilled.

I will probably do another 6QT exchange at 20,000 which means 85-90% of the factory fill will be gone, and then call it good until 50,000 miles or so.

It sure is nice for this to be a 30 minute job with the PPE instead of 3 hours without (yes I am slow).

Not too much on the drain plug magnet, but this o-ring is worn out.

Anyone use Amsoil ULV tranmission fluid?
.

I looked at it, as I did a full flush at 70k on my 2014 Mercedes E350 with Amsoil transmission fluid, and was stunned at how well that car reacted to it. But looking into their ULV and doing some reading on the internet, decided that I would stick with OE while in the warranty period. I don't think Amsoil ULV is much different than their non-ULV fluid, and did see a couple of comments from the F150 crowd that said it made their transmission shift poorly. Some said it made it shift great, but enough comments against it to make me not want to temp the warranty denial route from happening if I needed it. We all know if you open that window, any manufacturer is going to use it forever.

I am getting ready to replace my pan with the standard PPE pan and have a question. I will be replacing the filter as well and wanted to know how many quarts will I need to do this? Also what is the actual fill mark I should be looking to make sure it is at that amount?
my plan was to measure what came out and just replace the same amount.

sorry just saw this,

The transmission should take about 6 - 7 quarts. I would have at least 8 on hand.

Unfortunately after you refill you need to check the fluid level with the engine running and the Bronco in Park. You also need to get the transmission fluid up to 206-215 degrees. At this temp the dipstick needs to read between the 3 and the 4 for fluid level. I find about 1 pint (0.5 quarts) moves the level up or down one number at 206-215. So if you’re at the 4.5, add 1/2 quart to get it to 3.5, or if you’re at 2.5 drain 0.5 quart to get it to 3.5, etc.

You can get to ~210 degrees by driving but if it isn’t enough, you can try “torque braking” which is putting the vehicle in drive, holding the brake and also pressing the accelerator. I wouldn’t do it for more than 30 seconds at a time. The temp will probably keep rising for a minute or two after you stop torque braking.

Highly recommend this ratcheting 19mm wrench to unscrew the fluid dipstick cap and tighten back up

I find these pliers essential to not getting burned while dunking the dipstick in and out of a hot trans

Also I would get some kind of welding gloves/gauntlets to avoid burns. Problem is you need some finger dexterity to twist the the the dipstick cap closed. I would recommend loosening the dipstick cap while it’s cold, drive around and/or torque brake while stationary and the dipstick cap is loosely in place (or just leave it off if you’re going to torque brake and not move). Then check level, filling as required. Let it cool down then screw the dipstick cap back on.

credit to @Ducati1098 for showing us all this and I’m sure he’ll correct anything wrong I told you.

Anyone know a part number for the transmission plastic heat shield clips? Two did not survive the second time I did this job.

When I did mine at 4k miles, the car was cold. I set it up the night before and then went at it the next morning. Was part of changing over to the PPE transmission pan for the drain plug ability. Skip all the repeats.......I refilled it with 6 quarts of Ford fluid. at 6,800 miles I had it at the dealership for tire rotation, and asked for the transmission fluid level to be checked to verify it was ok. They hooked it up to "FDRS" to monitor trans temperature fluid level, then pulled the pulled the dip stick, which read "between 3 and 4 - within spec."

So, for me, pan off with new filter....6 quarts refill cold = perfect level of 3 to 4 on the dipstick when hot.
Did you install the PPE pan with standard capacity, or the high capacity (1.75 additional quarts) ?

Mine is the standard.
So with a standard capacity pan, Ford suggests a 5qt initial fill, and 6 qts total brought you to the correct level.
I'm planning to add the BD extra capacity (2.1 quarts more )aluminum pan so I assume I'll need about 8 qts (two 1-gallon jugs of Amsoil Signature Series ULV).

But boy, thanks to tariffs I assume if not inflation, the prices on pans went to the moon.
Same price they’ve always been. I bought my stock capacity 3 years ago for $305, that’s what I find them listed for now 🤷‍♂️

Well I just installed the B&M replacement transmission dipstick (fits perfectly) and the mishimoto transmission pan with amsoil fluid.

I can't say that I'd want to do it again but I'm glad it's done. All that's left is to get it up to temp and mark the level on the new dipstick.

I really appreciate this thread and what everyone has put into it. It was very helpful!

Not sure if anyone else has a video of the proper procedure somewhere on this forum but I stumbled upon this Youtube video. It’s the only bronco specific video I found. Skip to about 6:15. Would love to know from the experienced folks on here if they would do anything differently.

This is a good video, I do highly recommend changing the pan for one with a drain plug because and easy fluid change is one that happens more regularly/on time. That said.. that's exactly the service. The gasket is reusable per Ford and I wish he had included the torque sequence and spec. I will changing T fluid either 20k or 30k depending on how hard the last 20k have been.

I can not express what a pain in the ass the dip stick is to check the fluid. The fluid has to be checked at temperature, thusly, the CAT is at branding temperature with little room to wear a welding glove.

I recommend removing the dipstick cover when cool. With the dipstick installed, while in a stationary position, once fluid has is been added, start the engine, add power to the engine and cycle though the gears with the break applied. Come up to temp and shot off the engine. Then delicately check the dipstick avoiding burns on the CAT.

Once at desired level, let that puppy cool and then screw the aluminum dipstick cap/cover on.

I don't plan on changing my filter again until 100k (changed at 20k)

If an aftermarket pan with a drain plug is installed would ford deny a warranty claim IF the transmission became faulty during the warranty period?
