Q about ZFG and ECU

How would you characterize the difference between the FP tune and ZFG. I find my FP tune to be lackluster.

Less torque management and smoother /quicker shifting vs. the Ford ProCal. Beyond that, about a 1 second improvement 0-60 on 93 octane and 1.5 seconds with E85 (with bolts ons)

On 93, the ZFG tune will usually pick up another 50-60whp over the FP tune
Also, like @MWILD mentioned, the transmission tuning is far better with the ZFG tune also.

Thats really what im after. I do not like how the FP trans tune behaves. It loves to downshift out of the torque band and requires 90%+ throttle to get above 8 pounds.

As @Ducati1098 mentioned. If you want to swap back to the stock PCM then you'll need access to FDRS because of PATS. For the everyday person, it's not really feasible. You could pay ZFG Racing to send you their remote kit and do it that way, but for most warranty repairs it won't be needed.

Also, as Ducati mentioned, assuming you're not taking your Bronco in for major engine or transmission repairs, then flashing the cracked PCM back to the stock tune is fine. I just had some warranty work done on my Bronco and flashed it back to the stock tune and it was never an issue.

One last thing, the difference between a piggyback tune and a ZFG Racing custom tune is night and day... I've tried them all.

Do you know the cost for ZFG , PCM package for the 3.0 liter Braptor Tune? Is that even an option? I really want to go that route. Right now I have the JB4 tune using e85 tune . Makes a big differance, plus I have the peddler commander. Those 2 combo are a fun drive. I do feel the potential in the motor and im ready for the bigger H.P.

First option is the tuning device. Here you can choose from the ZFGR RTD3 device or the HP Tuners MPVI3. There’s a whole breakdown on their site on the differences, but to keep it simple. The RTD3 device has to be used with both a mobile phone and a laptop. You’ll download the HP tuners TDN app on your apple or android mobile phone, then connect your phone to the RTD3 via BT. The TDN app will be used to flash the tune to your Bronco’s PCM. However, you will need to have a windows based laptop in order to record the logs for each run that you do throughout the tuning process.

The other option is the HP Tuners MPV13 device, which is faster and more flexible. You can still use the TDN app to flash the tune on your bronco, but as of right now logging it’s not supported on the TDN app. That said, unlike the RTD3 device, you can use a windows laptop to both flash and log.

I would go the "used" ECU route to save money.

If you want both 93 and E50, then you'll need to purchase another tune on top of your initial tune.

There's no way to know it even has a different PCM without completely removing it and looking at the part number. No dealership is going to do that for 99.9% of simple warranty repairs.
Not to mention, I'm pretty sure you need FDRS to even reinstall the old PCM because of PATS

If the dealer puts FDRS on it, FDRS won’t recognize the PCM. If there are tune induced powertrain problems, there’s a really good chance warranty will be denied. This is really true currently with Ford’s hard crackdown on warranty spending.

This is completely false.
FDRS has absolutely no idea anything is different. Doesn’t set a single DTC or anything. Works flawlessly and is recognized just like the factory PCM.
