Do you think this is a situation where they will install the shield preemptively or only after failure?
You could buy the shield and have them install it, but that isn’t something Ford would pay for.
I highly doubt any dealer would perform this whole TSB and replace a working alternator on one preemptively. This is only to be performed once it has failed.

I meant the shield separately, unless it's incorporated but it did have a separate part number listed.

I understand what you mean, but they can’t claim only part of a TSB.
Even doing it outside of the TSB, dealerships don’t really do preemptive repairs for something that hasn’t failed yet.
Ford wouldn’t pay the dealer for these things.

1.5Hrs shop time for the 2.3.
Do we know what this shield looks like? Obviously part of the work time is the skid plate, but hopefully it can be done without removing the alternator.
I am curious on this, I'd like to see what the new shield looks like. On the 2.7 you have to remove the alternator to get the shield off.

The shield itself appears to be cheap enough to be worth installing preemptively, are the alternators listed the same as original, and just listed because this TSB is meant to be done after alternator failure? IE, if doing preemptively, would you just reuse the original alternator?

I presume so. They likely saw the improvement that could be made and MY'23 Broncos have the new shield.

EDIT: @Snowdogyyz The Ford tech that shared the photo of his computer screen indicated that he has an early MY'23 that has since failed so apparently the new shield hasn't been in place for all MY'23 Broncos.
The updated shield for both engines started to be incorporated from build date 11/15/22-present according to the parts catalog.

So the issue people are having is just a not good rubber boot over a wire? That's what it sounds like.

Alternators are the same number as always. So just preemptively doing the shield alone would work fine.

I have an early 23 2.7 built 12/9, and it has a large black plastic shield alongside the alternator mounted to the frame if that is what you're talking about. I tried to take a picture, but It's hard to see in the photo.

No. The issue is muddy water running through the alternator depositing minerals that damage the stator.

They are replacing some guard that reduces water intrusion into the alternator.
