I would love to see this data. I have always wondered about the storage trays that say they hold 600 pounds and more. The hitch wasn't designed to carry weight in that way. Tongue weight and towing capacity are not the right metrics here as those trays put a huge amount of torque on the hitch. I'd think that hitting a big divot on the road with a 600 pound tray sticking off the back could bend the hitch/bumper/frame mounts. And remember that extended and drop hitches add leverage and lower your towing capacitySomeone on here awhile back actually came into a thread about that with facts and math to show how much.
The crossmember it’s bolted to isn’t exactly beefyI would love to see this data. I have always wondered about the storage trays that say they hold 600 pounds and more. Its not about copying Jeep. Any vehicle with the spare tire on the tailgate needs to swing instead of lift, else your lifting 100lbs of tire.I've pulled my teardrop trailer and also my quad trailer since day 1 with no issues, well only issue is can't open rear door when pulling trailer because they thought copying Jeep would be smart instead of a drop down tailgate![]()
Or you need a swing out tire carrier like the last generation of Bronco. Its not about copying Jeep. Any vehicle with the spare tire on the tailgate needs to swing instead of lift, else your lifting 100lbs of tire.
Like the last 5 generations!Or you need a swing out tire carrier like the last generation of Bronco.
Not all Gen ones had swing out rear tire carriers. My '74 came from the factory with the spare mounted on the passenger side rear fender. I added a rear swing carrier after I bought it and filled the holes and repainted the fender.Like the last 5 generations!
I opted for a bigger drop for my ball mount so that mine could be shorter and sit under the spare tire but with enough clearance that I wouldn't have to remove the tire. I would be banging the heck out of my shins with my ball mount sticking out like that!Hey OP, since you won’t post pics, I will.
This is what works for me.

The rear crossmember appears to the weak point. The BRaptor has brace setup that raises capacity 1500lbs. You might look into that.My battle is getting the trailer far enough away to be able to open the swing gate.
Extension solves that issue but the OEM receiver is so fuckin pathetic that it's actually flexing. No, not the hitch extension, but the receiver itself.
Ford really had the opportunity to build one of the best "overlanders" available but instead gave it a cardboard roof and a wet noodle of a hitch.
