My battle is getting the trailer far enough away to be able to open the swing gate.

Extension solves that issue but the OEM receiver is so fuckin pathetic that it's actually flexing. No, not the hitch extension, but the receiver itself.

Ford really had the opportunity to build one of the best "overlanders" available but instead gave it a cardboard roof and a wet noodle of a hitch.

I’m not trying to be an ass, but extensions are not made for towing anything of weight because of the increase in torque put on the receiver. With an extension, you should at most only tow 1/2 your tow rating or less. With the Bronco’s receiver being both shallow and not particularly reinforced, it isn’t really surprising that it flexes. I do agree that Ford do compromise way too much on this aspect of the design.

It's only a 2100lb trailer. There's no reason for the Bronco to not be capable of towing it. Even if Ford wanted to leave the tow rating low there's no reason they couldn't have built it a bit stronger. Yes extensions created significant leverage but it's also a vehicle that 9 times out of 10 NEEDS one due to the rear end design

I saw someone hint that maybe a spare tire relocation bracket could help. I think it definitely would. The 4WheelParts bracket for instance can raise it as much as 3 and a half inches. This pic shows how much room I have with 34's.

The Bronco is capable of towing it, you just want to be able to open the swing gate when YOUR TRAILER doesn't allow room for that. So you went with like an 18" extension on the hitch? Torque is multiplied by distance, MULTIPLED, so, ya your receiver is flexing. What is really scary is what would happen if you had to slam on the brakes at highway speed? Who are you gonna kill when the rear cross member snaps off?

I have an idea: Why don't you fix the trailer? Extend the tongue then you don't have the problem at all.

Yall didn't read my last post about the Bronco being an offroad vehicle. Towing is pretty far down on it's design. You are going to have to find solutions you wouldn't have to with other vehicles. Jeeps are gonna be the exact same way in this problem.......

Soon to be installing a full size 35" spare to match my other tires, and would like the spare a bit higher, will look into that.

I also sure would like a kayak trailer, but at least here in Illinois, I would need to pay every year for plate/stickers, it would add up. Currently throwing the kayaks in my van or on top of the Bronco works, but sometimes dripping water/mud all over can be a pain.
