I went with he 41 watt Rugged radio and Bronco mounting kit.

If I did it again, I'd put the antenna on the back and route the cables up to the glovebox (radio) and battery (power). Right now my antenna is on the front left tied down thing that comes with the bronco. sorry, I forget the proper noun for that black rectangular thing.
You need to prepare yourself mentally and physically to also program your radio. Not hard, but you gotta do it. Look into things like MyGMRS.com and start to understand what repeaters are in your area. Sounds like you know this stuff already b/c you're talking about HAM and GMRS is lighter than that.
