I think as long as you are not rock crawling or subjecting the Bronco to anything that could fly up and hit the pan really hard you are good without skids.

I doubled down and installed RCI aluminum skids on mine because the engine oil pan is also plastic. I had a heavily modified Wrangler that I kicked to the curb for the Bronco that we did all manner of offroad activity and had MetalCloak steel skids on it.

I opted to not make the Bronco heavier than necessary and steel skids would definitely tip the scales the wrong way.

It could be that I should have wiggled the pan a bit but as the studs serve no purpose, it was easier to just buy more bolts and be done with it.

It also eliminated the issue you describe with having to continuously switch sockets.

i am having the issue of weeping fluid at the rear studs. What bolts did you use - any specs or part numbers?

It seems to be somewhat hit or miss--there have been some here who had no issues with the studs, but mine also wept. I did not try "wiggling" the pan to see if it was an alignment issue, but replacing them with the "regular" bolts was easier.

Using the regular bolts will only be an issue if the transmission has to be dropped out of the vehicle. The studs are used with an adapter plate to hold the transmission as it is lowered, so hang onto the studs for the future.
