How many QTs of oil are you guys using to fill your 3.0 raptor bronco motor?
I searched and tons of threads relating to the 2.7 engine oil cap and dipstick gate.
Haven’t run across any discussing the Raptor motor.
Did my first oil change last night and a little confused as to what I put in and where it’s reading on the dipstick.
I also own a 21 f450 so I’m well aware of dipstick gate there as well.
You say "tons of threads"; how old are they? Filter down to more recent threads, say in the last 18 months. Those will tend to be richer in actual information.

Early on, it appears, there was LOTS of discussion on all of this based on very little actual information.

My 2023 OBX 2.7, built December 2023, takes 6 quarts. Source: I just did it a couple weeks ago.

Like I said, completely irrelevant in this case, but I’ll play along.
If more oil is better, why don’t they use 6 gallons or 8? Maybe 24? You’re just trying to justify something that is unnecessary. But you do you.
The spec for the 2.7 is 6 quarts. You use as many as you’d like lol
More to the point, 6 quarts puts it right in the correct part of the dipstick.

This is not rocket surgery.

What are you talking about? This is 'Murrica! MOAR IS BETTER!!
That’s why I run straight 80 weight. None of this bull$ht 0W30 crap. BIgGER NUmBErS! If it’s good enough for my differential it’s good enough for my engine.

I didn’t look at specific dates. Honestly it wasn’t relevant to the Raptor motor anyway but they showed up when I was searching. It’s a big issue in the sd forums which already had my attention.
Don’t recall what I’ve shared so far in this thread so if I’m repeating please forgive me. Manual says 6qts for raptor motor. I added 7.5 and after the engine sat overnight in our level garage the oil level was dead middle of the dipstick hashmarks. That was why I was confused. Would 6 even have touched the dipstick?
I’ve always been told to never overfill with oil for the reasons you guys have already established. It just doesn’t add up so that’s why I asked.

I saw a YouTube video recently where they dyno’d an engine with the correct oil level and then started adding one quart at a time. Too much oil caused a loss in power BUT the scary part is it LOST oil pressure with more oil. They determined the crank contacting the oil aerated it and the foam and froth caused the oil pressure loss. I don’t remember if one quart had a big effect but 2 quarts definitely did (and this was a big V8) so a smaller engine probably tolerates less

Manual says 6qts for raptor motor.
Are you sure about that?
I’ve never seen any publication list 6 quarts for the raptor.

Same, except I've been running 6 quarts.
I think that goes to show there's no reason to use an extra quart for no reason.
Hmmm, but after equivalent amounts of wear and use, wouldn't one have 1/6th less concentrations of wear particles and contaminants?

To be clear... I'm not advocating for overfilling 😉.

We have added .5qt to get to the top of the Raptor dip stick after dealer synthetic oil changes.

It was full to the top of the dip stick initially and 1st synthetic blend oil change.

Is anyone else having the dealer service and noticing the same thing?

Yes.

It does not take living on this planet very long to realize that in far far too many instances (there are always exceptions), dealer service sucks canal water even when (especially when) it is "free".

It's best to find an accountable local mechanic/shop to do regular maintenance if you are unable or unwilling to do it yourself.

We service our 2dr. However our Raptor travels all over the country which makes service interesting. We decided to extend the factory warranty and have dealer service to ideally limit hassles while traveling.

I'm sure the dealer is using 7qt per the manual and not verifying dip stick. Not surprised considering the cost of synthetic. We just bought extra and been adding. 5qt afterwards.

Surprised to see all the posts saying the dip stick is not accurate. Never experienced this in the past 100+ vehicles I've owned.

Just did my first oil/filter change at 1299 miles on my new 24 Bronco Raptor. Did it on a level garage floor no stands/ramps etc. Put in 7 quarts and it is just above 3/4 full on the cross hatches.
Thanks for the feedback.
That's the same as ours.
.5qt gets to the full.

Curious if adding the .5qt is a good or bad idea...
