… His whole premise is Gasoline can help reduce wear….

IMG_8227.webp

Not just gasoline but SHELL’s gasoline. During His 15 minute video he sets reasons why something is needed but never discussed what Shell did other than ‘additives’ or what those additives do to the cylinder wall and piston ring are affected.

He has been around a long time, is a good guy but he’s a salesmen, in current terminology he’s an internet influencer…
Valid criticisms. Unfortunately Shell considers all that to be intellectual property so the video claims by the geek are based on his aggregate oil analysis data which has debatable validity for assessing wear differences between fuels. Outside of a $10,000,000 + engine lab test with teardowns to measure wear I guess it’s all we have though.

The Motor Oil Geek only mentions Shell V-Power Premium as having friction modifiers in addition to the cleaning additives, but Exxon Mobil Synergy Supreme+ Premium also has friction modifiers. I wonder if these are the same.

I mainly use Chevron fuel since those stations are most convenient, but their Chevron with Techron only mentions cleaning additives and doesn’t claim to reduce wear with friction modifiers. Does anyone know otherwise?

Not that I have seen. That's part of the problem, the 'non-transparency' of the market. Short of serious reverse engineering which no one as of yet has been willing to pay for, we just won't know beyond what the Chevron/Shell's/etc. claim and what can be seen from aggregate data from Speed Diagnostics (which as pointed out has limitations).

We get gasoline additive from Afton. They offer additive with friction modifiers.

I use full E85 most of the year with my custom tune and it runs far better on E85 than typical 10% ethanol gasoline. Not just because of the power, but it just runs way smoother IMO. It’s really a night and day difference.
Why doesn't Ford rate these engines for flex fuel?

Ford does not generally offer factory flex-fuel (E85) capability for EcoBoost engines because the fuel's lower energy density conflicts with the engine's primary goal of fuel efficiency. Running E85 requires30–40% more fuel flow, demanding larger, costlier injectors, and creates significantly lower MPG, contradicting the EcoBoost's efficiency focus.

I think we have more Costco stations than E85. Also not many Shell stations.

We are competing with California for the highest gas taxes in the nation so Costco is my go to.
