Complete noob when it comes to intercoolers. Will be having the Ford Pre Cal installed soon and looking to make sure I have everything figured out before I do.

Does upgrading it help?

I also see that the ones from Whipple and Cobb are typically the recommended ones. What makes these better than the others that are available?
Hi there! Yes, the intercooler helps, but not particularly with peak power. The IC helps with consistency between pulls and maintains better cooler temperatures.
Whipple and Cobb have a great history, so there is inherent trust in the community. The Whipple one I have personally assisted with install and the size difference over stock was drastic.
We carry both of these plus many more like CP-e and would be happy to help.
Give us a shout!

With CVF's high mount (Coming soon for 2.3/2.7) I can get within 5-10 degrees of ambient with moderate sustained boost. Worthwhile improvement over the larger stock location intercooler. Not sure when it will be available for the BRaptor though?

I would say it’s 100% worth waiting for the a high mount (relocated) IC if you live in the south or tow and are tuned.
Wish I had thought of that when was burying my CP-e behind the bumper.

Just wondering, you posted this image in the raptor subsection, is cvf releasing this for raptors too?

Keep in mind the Raptor has a Transmission cooler in front of the radiator as well. Putting a massive intercooler in front of the rather moderate sized radiator and transmission cooler and ac condenser is going to increase temperatures for everything else.

There just isn't much room on these trucks. Factory put the intercooler in the best place. Don't block it with bumpers and aftermarket crap. Remove the active shutters and relocate the ACC. This is the best option.

I've seen the stock radiator overload on long hill climbs. That would be the next more important upgrade.

IMO, the best way to add a larger IC within our packaging constraints is to redesign the OEM front skid plate with a larger opening and proper sealed ducting in conjunction with a larger, more efficient core. This is especially true on the Raptor which needs more cooling and not less. Not a fan of the high mount for the Braptor for that reason alone.

The adaptive cruise location certainly doesn't help things. Ford took the easy way out on that probably due to bean counters pretending to be engineers. Not sure how much recalibration/coding would be needed to offset it to the left/right in the bumper but probably a lot. One could always eliminate the sensor and code it out.

Relocation works for us. Probably needs a bit more adjustment... picks up vehicles on the right more.

It seems there is a very significant mixture here of people and products on both the Raptor and non-Raptor side. The thread was posted in the Raptor section... If I were an admin I'd clean it up...

Stock IC has far less heat soak than aftermarket ones the benefit is it cools down very fast but also heats up fast lie stop light WOT repeatedly where aftermarket will heat up and cool down slowly so end up being hot in high frequency WOT.

Very important that the IC flow rates match turbos.....this is where a matched Garrett would be very nice to get.

Seeking opinions. I have ZERO performance concerns with my '24 BRaptor (I haven't even gotten a tune yet). I saw a forum post where a nearby manufacturer (their name starts with M and ends in moto) was seeking BRaptor owners. Turns out, they are developing an intercooler and offered a free one to use my truck.
Would you?
I ask myself, "if I had $3000, would I have an intercooler installed". The answer is probably not.

I use a Mishi IC on my over modified Wildtrak. It works great, I do see some oil temps in the 230 and even 240 range at times, cant say its the high mount intercooler or not. I also live at 7,000' which wont help either.

All in all very happy with Mishi products but their warranty department is based around uncompromising rules, perhaps a carryover from Japan.

You can get an intercooler for under $1000 easily. Wagner's IC is pretty good and it's like $600. Takes an hour to install yourself and I have a writeup over on the BroncoRaptor forum for the CP-E intercooler. I did one due to how damn hot it is here, especially in the summer months. I don't have any other engine mods, no tune, etc. I did notice a slight improvement in throttle response and charge temps are generally equal to or within 5 degrees of the intake temp.

I didn't notice any real improvement during neutral throttle cruising speeds vs. the OEM intercooler. I wasn't expecting any per se but I thought front shutter removal may make the average temp more consistent by eliminating the shutters.
