Good thing you never saw the 4 inch aluminum drive shaft in my Gen1 Lightning!
My Gen 2 L came stock with the 4" aluminum drive shaft also.

So pretty cool. Talked to them today. Ordered a front shaft. Will post pics when that is ready!

Talked to the guys there. Factory aluminum stuff is .065 wall tubing. They showed me from ford. It gets some cardboard glued inside the tube to make it not sound like a tin can. The stuff they use is .125 wall. Said they can also make them in steel in the rear but the tolerances / travel is a little better with this aluminum setup.

That is a very nice driveshaft , I bet not very easy to your wallet. The shafts we are building at my work are steel with 1350 cv heads , and we have developed a replacement t-case output yoke.

@map450 That replacement’s hardcore. Didn’t zoom in on the ujoints but assume you went sealed on them?

Biggest question I have though is cause of the failure. Can you remember hanging it up on something? Or are you thinking just random part failure or simply mileage? If the latter, how many miles? Wondering when I get to look forward to addressing mine.

Yeah spicer solid 1350’s. Greaseable joints have a time and place and in that rear ain’t one of em 😂😂.

guy in the shop said it could have just been crap luck. Or whoever assembled that CV could’ve been having an off day and just didn’t put enough grease in there. It’s spit it at 42,000 miles.

Agree with you there. 👍

And sucks if simply bad luck with the oem cv. Curious if you had Ford look at warranty-ing it, leaning on your 5/60 drivetrain. @Ducati1098 , wouldn’t that qualify?
Downside is you wouldn’t have ended up with your sweet replacement, but would be a good exercise in testing Ford to stand behind their product. I don’t have mine close to check, but is there supposed to be a boot on your oem at the T-case joint or do they even have one there? Yours looks awful dry/rusty if there was a boot there before replacement. And conversely, it seems to me it’s a pretty vulnerable place to not have one if there’s not. Guess I’ve never noticed on mine…

Any issues with the joint would be warranty as long as it’s under 3/36
