General Opinion: Manual Transmission (Update)

Hi all,

My husband and I currently have two broncos. Both 2.7 and thus automatics. I’m looking to trade in one and replace it with a manual transmission. Currently looking at a MY22 and MY23.
Are the manual transmissions really as bad as I’ve been led to believe? Any major difference between the MY22 and MY23 manual trans? Is this a bad decision and I should just keep what we have. Any and all thoughts appreciated!

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input and building up some major excitement on my end. I am now the proud owner of my very own Base mansquatch. Full disclosure…. I don’t actually know how to drive a manual so my husband is driving home . Also…. Don’t judge my shackles. It came with them on there

I have a MY23 and have had no issues with the manual transmission. It is easy to shift and doesn't make any unusual sounds. I really enjoy driving it.

Same as above, I've been driving mine for almost 15k miles. Shifts like a dream and brings a smile every time I drive it. I've only heard the infamous scraping sound a few times - all below 50*F and only for a few mins.

I love mine. They aren't as bad as you've been led to believe. The big issue is some of the early ones are making a grinding/scraping sound when cold...issues w/ the 5th & 6th gear syncros. There is a TSB for the issue and Ford is either replacing the syncros or the entire tranny on their dime. Not all are having the issue, hit or miss but mostly on 2021s and 2022s. Mine is making the noise slightly when it's below 50degF but it goes away once warmed up...otherwise operates fine.

20k trouble-free miles with mine. Love it. SUper fun to drive. No noise, at least that I can hear, but my hearing is pretty bad. Maybe ignorance is bliss? LOL.

MY22. Zero issues. Love it. Wouldn’t have anything but the manual transmission on the Bronco

Mine has been fine so far after 20K miles. As others have said, easy to shift but a little notchy sometimes. No regrets whatsoever.

I have '22. Ford nailed the clutch, his the right amount pedal pressure and engagement. The way they programmed it so that you can get going with no throttle at all and it will restart when push the clutch in makes it easy for a beginner.

The Trans itself, mine is a little notchy as mentioned but otherwise great. It may be by design so that it won't pop out of gear on rough terrain.

2023 6200 miles with no issues. I have the FPT and the rev matching just makes it even more fun to drive. Rarely see cold temps here so can't really speak for the noise issues when its cold. No noise that I notice as of yet.

I after being fearful that it was a bad move would 100% buy the manual again. It is so smooth, the gearing spot on. You'll love it! I've got a grin ear to ear when driving it!

2021-2023 up until late April are all the same. Late April they seemed to have finally updated the 5-6 synchros. It's a rattle noise, not grinding as some say. Combination of reasons but Getrags are noted to be like that. It's not going to leave you stranded.

TBH being you are in Florida, you may never even hear the rattle. Once temps here got to be steady in the 70-80's, mine is quiet as can be. Another good thing is that when techs have taken the transmissions apart to update, they have not found any wear or damage. So just a rattle noise that some have. Seems to be less or non existant in warmer temps.

25k on mine with 2 week long off road trips on it over the last 2 years. I noticed the transmission noise when it was between 0 and 20 below this winter, but I haven't had any issues with the transmission. I think it's blown out of proportion, as a lot of people have gotten the recall without any real issues other than noise occurring.

No issue at all, and I got nearly 36k on mine, driving it everywhere

It's all luck of the draw, some people unfortunately weren't lucky and this place became their echo chamber

MY21 here with 20k miles and multiple road trips to go off road, never had an issue, never heard the famous grinding that many others have heard, I love it and have never once wished I had an auto

Took delivery of a 2023 BD 7m in May. The transmission is great and the crawler gear is awesome on tight technical trails. No noise. The overall power train is great and IMO the best overall package in the Bronco.

I Love my, The Crawl gear is fun too. I use it in drive thru or in traffic or the random times to ramp up a crub for fun when parking.
