The capacity is quite low in the fdu, as I think @Ducati1098 mentioned. It will seep out until empty and never leave a drip.

my theory is that the most stress on the FDU occurs in very slippery conditions and 4A with heavy throttly. I.e. snowy launches.
This slams the front from zero power to full power when there is a significant wheel speed difference between the front and rear, causing the front pinion seal to take a lateral load (because its not perfectly aligned). Then a seep begins because the pinion seals are garbage. (Ford pinions seals have been poor quality on every ford ive seen. Mustangs to f150 to broncos)

empty the .8 quarts of fluid over 5k miles and it overheats and grenades.

Did confirm with the dealer who has it in that it was not low on fluid. Still is odd to me the dealer I bought it from in the mtns said to use 4A and the one out on the plains said not to.

Unfortunately it's not that odd, dealers seem to say almost anything around this subject. I maintain it's mostly out of ignorance, just looking for something to blame..

I can say, 4A or not, I see stories from front ends breaking from one of two things mostly:

- Someone using Slippery mode and/or Front locker (does slippery lock in the front? I don't think it does, but can't verify) - and almost always in deep snow.

- Big tires over time.

I had my FAD fail in snow earlier this winter - not sure what it was, but was able to fiddle with it and get it working again.

If by locked in you mean engages 4A, yes, Slippery Mode initiates 4A in mine.

And that sucks you’ve already had a snag in your FAD. I still have trust issues from when Ford (and GM) first introduced switch activated 4WD and we’d carry a hammer with so that if/when it wouldn’t engage or release, tapping lightly in the solenoid housing would oft times do the trick. Pretty sure I still have stress dreams/ptsd of it stranding me somewhere middle of nowhere. šŸ˜‚

No, at least not by selecting the dialed mode. You may be able to add hero switch front locker to it but I’ve not tried. Mostly, I don’t use the modes much at all and just select all features for the conditions/situation I’m in

To answer your question, Slippery Mode does not lock the front or rear differential. The Hero buttons are available to be toggled by the occupants.
