Are the diffs covered under the 5yr powertrain warranty?
Should be but in the last couple of years the only way to be sure is by VIN and failed part number. They've removed a bunch of specific parts that used to be covered and after getting burned a number of times over the last 5 or so years (told a customer repair was covered before running part coverage tool) we quit assuming.

For S&G, I used my VIN and ran part coverage tool for the front pinion and outer axle seals and they are all covered for 5/60. Essentially, if a covered part (causal) fails, like a pinion seal and roaches the diff, the progressive damage is covered. Now, if the seal was just a 3/36 part, determined to be the causal and you were outside of that window, you're out of luck. Now, one could make the case that an internal (5/60 covered) part failed first and the pinion seal was consequential damage, you might get away with covering the whole repair. A lot of these things, especially catastrophic failures, are very difficult to diagnose to the point of certainty, what component failed first.

We've had engines hydro lock after 3/36 but under 5/60 where the injector had failed. The injector in that particular case was only covered for 3/36 so the customer was responsible for the whole repair.

Just had my front diff replaced right before Christmas. Identified the front pinion leak and had that fixed earlier in the year. I'm assuming when the leak was fixed the front dif was not installed with correct spacing. My bearings and gears started howling a few months later, maybe 20k miles later. I drive a lot.

So far so good with the new front diff.
I am curious, do you drive in 2H or 4A? I am always in 4A which is my preferred drive mode.

After a trip to Death Valley I heard a squeaking noise while only applying the gas. When changing the oil, I noticed that the front diff housing showed signs of a leak. I took it to the dealer but decided to drive in 2H just out of curiosity and found the squeaky noise had ceased. When I got to the dealer I was able to pin-point the issue, today the Service Advisor sent me the message below. I followed up with a phone call and was told that the leak could have caused the issue since the fluid could have been low. I was also told to change all my fluid at 30k since I do get off-road at least once a month. Everything is going to replaced under warranty but what an experience!

“Technician found leak with front diff- drained fluid found metal debries in fluid. Took off diff case and found almost all bearings in front diff toasted. Per fords pinpoint test says to replace front diff assembly. I ordered one it is about 4-5 days out. You can keep rental until work is done. looking like mid next week for completion.”
so thought I wud attach my question here.....on another brand I re geared for tires , armor weight etc....gear manufacture said 500 mile break in...speed below 50 I think, then lube change etc..just curious when a new unit is installed why not the same requirements?

I use Sport mode (switches to 4A) in my Basesquatch but I switch to 2WD unless 4WD is needed (slippery conditions) then I just use 4A. If I am off roading then I use 4H or 4L.
