If you are using a normal transmission auto or manual as you are acceleration and shift gears the RPMs are changing so your engine is not always at max HP or max torque. With each shift the RPMs drop because you are in a higher gear and then start climbing until you need to shift again. So with each shift you may end up below max torque and will not be accelerating as fast as if you were at peak torque. So in general you want the peak torque and peak HP to be far apart in RPMs so you never leave the RPM range between them even when you shift gears. So peak torque at a lower rpm is good and peak HP at a higher RPM is good and more gears to choose from is good too. Back years ago with only a 4 speed the wide power band between torque and HP was really important now with 6 or 10 speed transmissions it is less so but it still matters.

In realty both engines are faster then I need and I would be happy with either.

Subjectively I would love an old fashion pushrod v8. I don't think a 7.3 would count as a big block engine, if it did this would be extra cool because the last factory big block v8 was in the 1970's. The 1973 Mustang cobra 429 and nothing over 5.8L after that I think. The charger dropped the big block v8 after 1974.
The peak torque number is really irrelevant for acceleration. We discuss that number (and it's rpm location) because it helps characterize how the engine feels and behaves. Area under the hp curve is what matters.

As you shift you want to spend as much time at high hp on the Dyno chart as possible, so that will be at or near redline for almost all engines. Looking at the stock chart I see for the 7.3 it would be redline.

Also, I would greatly prefer any v8 sound to my 2.7. :/

Actually with the CAFE penalties gone, maybe V8 or hell, even the 2-dr v6 will return.
This is actually the very reason so many are considering swaps now, before you could have the vehicle red flagged... now that most likely won't happen! even if you live in a ECO state like me. 🤣😂😍

Given emissions standards are now less of an impact, Ford should definitely fit the V8 in the Bronco. I realized that there are constraints with the chassis that need to be addressed and that crash testing would have to be completed again with the new model. I'm all in, I will sell my 23 badlands and happily wait months to receive it. Please build it Ford!!!

I would definitely buy a V8 bronco as well...especially if it was a half cab, or pickup version. The new roadster they built is cool but it needs a roll bar for production...the half cab could fill in the legal voids the roadster has and make it to production.

I was thinking of trading in my FE in on a Raptor or maybe a scout in a year or two, but now this happens - Gladiator V8. If there was a V8 Bronco, especially the Raptor (I know, I know, not enough space in the engine bay apparently), I'd be sticking with a Bronco for sure.

Jeep Gladiator 392 V8 Confirmed, Wrangler 392 Continuing Indefinitely
I would say obviously there is enough room as the coyote swop is offered third party and has been done many times so…..

This. The 5.7 has "better" reliability and I'm disappointed that's not offered.
I want 5.0 in non-Raptor Bronco...
Yeah, I’d like to see a 5.0 in the OBX, that would be a cool street truck vibe?! Wheels, tires and a supercharger option…

If the 392’s sell, we could see a 5.0 in the bronco…

Call me weird, but my 3.0 twins do just fine, especially with the upgrades and a tune. I mean, it is an off-road vehicle. High speed down a dirt trail is always fun, but it is a box-shaped off-roader.

If I want to hear the vroom vroom louder, well, I can jump into my 68 with a built 351w, or this gal...

To each their own, but the only purpose of putting a v8 into a truck is for bragging rights. The hp wars have ruined cars IMO. The more powerful cars become, the less fun they are. The absolute last thing the Bronco needs is a V8, IMO.

I like the sound of a V8, but for my bronco? Meh. It's not as important as it is in my Mustang. I'm happy with the power my 2.3 puts out. I wish the torque band and RPMs were a bit lower. Sounds like an old 302 is what I want, and I don't see Ford offering me that.

oh I'm fully aware...I just stated 460 to show newbies the cubic inches...and to let them envision an antique.
yes it's and older photo, but I give you my 460.. might be a 429/460 not really sure, thankfully the parts are interchangeable.. (for comparison purposes)
