For Broncos that are prewired for trailer wiring, but don’t have the module installed, does the connector do anything? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that it was partially functional even without the wiring (like it had reverse lights but no brake/turns), but I could be imagining things.

I bougnt mine prewired. The extra pins are for backup lights, 12 volt auxiliary power, and brakes. You need the brake control module to get the 12 volt power and brakes. I think the backup lights (pin 7) will work without the brake control module but I'm not sure.

Did you buy the whole kit or just the module? I've seen where other people have purchased the module separate for the 2025 Bronco and it doesn't work. Many the only way to get the proper module is to purchase the 2025 kit ( VS2DZ15A416C ). I ordered module separate (M2DZ-19H332-A) but haven't tried installing and programing it yet... for fear I would be wasting my time.

If you only need a 4-pin harness (no brakes), the Amazon plug-n-play modules work fine & no programming needed. I am sure I will get backup proximity alerts in reverse with a trailer on, but I can deal with that.

So do you have full trailer lights with no effects inside the vehicle other than the backup proximity alarm?

I just purchased the module, that may be it.

Can you be more specific on what you purchased?

Module for LED lights (they make a different one for non-LED Broncos): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D99S8K3R?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_28&th=1 The black flying lead wire in the kit does need 12V, I used the spare aux-switch wire hidden behind the passenger side quarter-panel cover (so an aux switch turns on module), but there are other wires than can be tapped into (like the 12V lighter plug). So I guess it is not true plug-n-play as I suggested.

Hitch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9NPWBQH?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_7 :

Biggest pain of the job was removal of the OEM hitch cover (to install the Curt hitch), it requires the removal of 2 long bolts that either can be cut via a grinding wheel or pulled out after removing the bumper.

This is correct. Without the tow module you'll get reverse light and running/marker lights. Brake, turn, and the 12V aux power require the module.

And as @box986 said, if you don't need the 7-pin connector you can usually just use one of the aftermarket 4-pin converters. Ford even sells one themselves that works on a bunch of different vehicles.

If you do need the 7-pin connector, then it makes sense to grab the official Ford kit in my opinion.

Yes, just like any other 4-pin trailer hookup..

What year is your bronco and trim?

I rather spend little on aftermarket than give Ford the satisfaction of nickel dime bronco buyers with these outrageous prices.

Jim Farley aka xiaomi EV lover should remove himself from Ford leadership!
