The saga started with being found on road dead. Culprit being "melted catalytic converters" so they replaced Cats. Received back and the below video shows what my engine sounds like. Ford dealer says it sounds messed up but tech says normal. Checked against others and not normal. Had for a year and a half - never sounded like this before. I emailed @Ford Motor Company with no response to my direct message. Called the hotline and they assigned a case number to it and then told me that my course of action is to take to another dealer because the hotline cannot help diagnose. I explained that my service advisor is the one that said to open a case and they said that the Ford Customer Relationship Center is not really for customers to call so there isn't really anything he can do to help. He said he would try and reach out to dealer but after 45 minutes on hold, nobody answered so I could either go to dealer and try and speak to Manager or take to another dealer.

Yeah FORD!!

WOW! The tech needs his hearing checked 🤣 . Sorry I’m sure it’s anything but funny to you. I bet it’s making metal.

I don't mind jokes! It's so hard to catch on video but you can hear it inside the cab and about 20 feet away. It's not a normal Direct Injection tick. Plus over the last year and half it's been smooth as silk. It wasn't until they returned it to me like this that it started happening. It didn't sound like that when I dropped it off, that's for sure.

How in the hell do they screw up an engine just changing the catalytic converters? Sounds like it’s out of oil and all the lifters are collapsed

They changed the oil too while it was in. I have no idea. I also have no idea how the tech says it's normal and @Ford Motor Company says the customer care line is not for customers!

If this helps anyone give me some ideas...it's louder after it warms up. On start up it doesn't sound that bad. My only guess is that once the oil heats up and thins out that's when the gremlins start. If I start it and drive it like 5 miles, its loud when I get there.

Does the 3.0 have the cam phaser issue the 2.7s have? That's my uneducated guess.

Thanks for the reply.

They do. Not common but there are some with issues.

The cam phasers typically only make noise at start is what they are telling me. He said they only work for like the first 2 or 3 seconds and that's it. Not that I believe anything anymore but that's what they told me.

Maybe you shouldn't of got that King of the Hammers edition... lol j/k

I would take it to another dealership. There's no way that's right and at this point them claiming otherwise makes me concerned for them to keep working on it.

Yeah, if I have to, I might. I think before that, I would go buy something else. If it's too much to ask Ford to diagnose and fix then I may just be joining the JL forum here shortly.

I forgot to mention on the call with customer support he said its nothing to worry about because I have less than 36K miles on it and if something goes wrong, they will cover it.

I forgot he said that but he did! LOL.

I would drive that biatch back to the dealership when they open and park in front of the door where all potential customers are likely to enter. I’d leave it idling and lock the doors. Bet they find the problem then.

The tech got the oil hoses mixed up and filled it with transmission fluid or something thin and dumb. Viscosity is a little higher at first startup but gets way too thin when it warms up, thus the noises. That’s the only thing that makes sense. Unless he screwed up and started it without oil by accident and it clearances the bearings for you. It really sounds like low oil pressure noises. Your oil pressure gauge is really only an idiot light. It reads has pressure or doesn’t. Nothing in between really.

LOVE IT! It's still at the dealership because they said they didn't want me driving it on my 2000 trip. I said, " Great let's trade it for that other Raptor then.". Well, we should probably fix it first before we do that! Can't trade it, Can't fix it, and Can't drive it 2000 miles. Hmmmmm.

BUT NOTHINGS WRONG! @Ford Motor Company
