The designs are different, the Whipple is larger and is positioned differently behind the bumper. If you look at my review of the CP-E intercooler, you can see, in the pictures, that there is no way to mount the louvers onto the intercooler.
looking at your thread is what really started getting my gears going on what route I should take. Very nice write up!

I've seen other vendors that cannot fit the shutters advise to remove them and zip tie the shutter motor to the intercooler bracket so no codes are thrown.
Thatโ€™s exactly what you do. I did the Whipple intercooler and tune upgrade to my Raptor and you remove both the front and back shutters and zip tie the motor (leaving it plugged into the harness) to the intercooler mount.

cp-e is the frontrunner in my options at the moment.
Thatโ€™s what I have. Have been toiling with shutter removal as well. Still seems like a lot of plastic blocking it.

Installed mishimoto high mount IC few months ago

Factory instructions delete both IC shutter and much larger radiator shutter, motors and all, as a result. There is I think just a plug seal, (possibly a jumper though), that they include for at least one of the shutters, which I installed per instructions

I have not had any dash lights or readily visible error messages, or any other related issues since install. Whatever forscan might show I do not know as I don't have an interface.
same here. No issues

Los, my feelings exactly. This is why the aftermarket loves these people. If Ford with all their millions in r and d thought they could save millions leaving them off I'm sure they would. They are probably there for a reason. Just my 2 cents. Jim.

They help to reduce condensation especially if you live in a climate that has any kind of weather changes. Additionally, Ford makes it clear there are certain areas that shouldn't be blocked for air flow and when people put an intercooler in front of a radiator that is going to increase engine operating temp and make the intercooler at least slightly less effective because it can't shed heat as fast as it could in front of a radiator as it could with open space behind it. I understand that going big on your intercooler might have at least a slight performance aspect to it, but for me I have enough performance as is for wheeling and the street. It would be nice to have a free or flowing turbo system with lower temps for longevity, but there's really nowhere else to move an intercooler that wouldn't have some kind of detrimental effect on something else. At least one of the companies that manufactures an aftermarket intercooler freely admits that yes it's going to impact engine operating temps but that the trade-off is supposed to be worth it. With an extended warranty, I don't want to risk being denied if my engine ever lets go if the service folks find that crucial plumbing has been altered. YMMV.

Ford always puts too small of ICs in and they suffer from heat soak. Also the shutters were in my way, a winch fits perfectly in that spot without sticking out like everyone else.

inefficient when compared to the aftermarket options; and this is not unique to the Bronco. OEM equipment is not always known for being top tier. Yes, all these manufacturers have engineers who are really good at what they do. At the end of the day, they have to sell a vehicle and they can't do that with really expensive parts on a mass production scale.

Ford Bronco correct way to remove intercooler shutters IMG_0596.JPG

High Mount Mishimoto here as well. ZERO issues. ZERO change in coolant temp. NO CELs. Just a dummy plug in the shutter wiring connector. No zip tying the motor out of the way. No Forscan.

Sorry if I seem bias but I also own a Procharged Fox Body and have had some experience with mounting an intercooler in front of the rad and had my doubts at first about what might happen, it is tight up front in the Bronc. But as I said I have had ZERO issues with coolant temp. Runs the same 4 bars as it did the first day I drove it home. Thought I might need a larger, more efficient rad, but I have not seen the need yet.

Information on this eludes me (perhaps my search ability needs refined). Is there a correct way to remove them without triggering any sort of errors from the PCM? I don't have a Forscan but if that's what it takes to make a clean break, I'm willing to get what I need.

I'd love to hear from anyone that has removed theirs and understand any potential pitfalls.

cheers!
I considered it but, I'm in the Northeast and installed a Mishimoto intercooler without issue and no mods to the shutters. It was a plug n play replacement of the factory cooler.

Guess it depends on your location....

Were you able to check turbo temps before and after? And what kind of performance gains did you notice?
