I just got done installing a set of Bilstein 6112s on my Wildtrak and decided to video the install process so everyone can see what the process entails. It's not the most difficult job in the world, but also not for those who have never held a wrench. It's all nuts and bolts with the only special tool being a spring compressor. I'd probably give this one a 4 out of 5 on the driveway difficulty scale, maybe a 3.5 if you have a helper. This is also going to be much the same process for installing most other shocks on the Bronco.

So far the ride has felt amazing in the few miles I've driven. On the street it feels like a luxury car now, and I can bomb down the rough rutted dirt road in front of my house and it feels like it's paved. I haven't had a chance to get out on the trail yet, but will be putting these things through their paces out at UBB in a couple weeks, so if you see me out there feel free to say hello. We'll have both my Cyber Orange Wildtrak and our Race Red Badlands out there to have some fun. Both have virtually every product we make on them so if you're interested in seeing anything in person, come on out to Sand Hollow and join us for a couple days of fun on the trail!

If you've got any questions about the install feel free to post em and I'll do my best to answer.

Disclaimer, I am a vendor here, but SFR does not sell Bilstein or any other brand of shock. I'm sure there are at least a couple Bilstein dealers around here though.

Watching it now, informative to what needs to be done. I'm glad you got the hang of those push pin screw thingies, I still struggle with them. I'll need to see if holding the outer ring makes a difference.

Wishing I had realized about UBB before a couple weeks ago or I'd have gone out. Too late now, but eyeballing Trail Hero in the Fall.

It definitely does. The inner stud is threaded into the outer ring, so if they are both spinning nothing is happening, just like spinning a nut and bolt together. Gotta hold one in place while turning the other for anything to happen :)

Cute kid, pretty helpful for an 8yr old. Probably glad there's no videos of me helping my dad back in the day, would be mostly "Hey come hold this flashlight. Ok, right here where I can see. Can you hold it still? What're you doing, over here. What? No, right here! Would you look at what you're doing?? Ok, where's your brother..." lol

Would like to see before and after pics. We got the same bronco. 😀

By the way to confirm what settings did you use on shocks? Front I think you used 4th grove and back the 3rd groove?

The Before/After from just installing the 6112s isn't really gonna be noticeable, as I purposely tried to keep the height close to where it already was with just the front leveled about 1.5". At most I gained half an inch, though I didn't bother to measure precisely. I used the 4th groove in the front and the 2nd on the rear, which in theory should be about .5" lift in back and 1.8" up front. Here's some current pictures with one from the day I bought it.

Good video! I have a in-depth review/comparison being filmed on the 1st showing the 8112 against Sasquatch and Hoss 3.0 Fox suspension. Gonna be good

Thanks buddy. That looks like the perfect lift I’m wanting. Then I also don’t have to deal with track bars, upper control arms, and new rear links. Just looking for a little bit more lift over stock, better off-road capacity while maintaining OEM equipment.

Good video. A few questions.

1. Front Bilstein spring appears th have more windings than stock (8 vs. 6). Does this reduce compression travel?

2. Rear Bilstein spring also appears to have more windings than stock. And also appears to be progress vs stock's linear. Does it reduce compression travel?

3. The Bilstein 6100 shock body has a larger diameter than stock. Does the larger diameter interfer or make contact with tierod at full lock?

No to all 3. Neither the stock coil or these come anywhere near coil bind. If anything I'd expect more real world travel as the coils feel a little softer with the shock doing more of the work. I'm interested to see how well it flexes on the trail next week.

I took out an otherwise stock Bronco equipped with 8112’s and compared it to a stock Hoss 3.0 Fox bronco and just for personal fun, a 6112 series equipped bronco as well. We also had a Raptor and I have my Kings that I’m familiar with.

A full write up in a separate thread is coming once I have the video done. But oh my gosh those 8112’s are incredible.

Best shock I have experienced on a Bronco. Only thing to note is that it allows for more compression (but less extension) then other shocks. This makes fitting 37’s difficult as they will likely go up into your fender if your stock. Bilstein designed em around 35’s and the desert. With a telescoping, adjustable bumpstop, 3 different compression zones and 2 rebound zones, these things are PLANTED!
I was impressed with the factory Fox shocks but the 8112’s really bring you into that next level.

My drone could only go so fast but we did more passes at 65 mph and it was crazy good. Definitely an expensive coilover but the tech is there that sets it apart. Most folks would be happy with the 6112’s, factory Fox or offerings from King, ADS or other folks. And my Accutune Kings are more then enough for me. But these just take it that extra step.

Would I have issues if I used the top clips for maximum height? I'm looking at getting 6112s and running 35x12.50 on stock SAS wheels. I want to level and sit higher. I mostly do light trails and mountain roads.

Dunno why you'd have any issues. The different height settings are there to be used. IMHO the top levels aren't really needed if you're running 35s, but that's personal preference.

Howdy. How do you like the 6112s on trail? Seriously considering buying these this summer!
