I don’t use brake maintenance mode. We disconnect the battery before doing any brake work or even just removing the calipers from the rotor. It’s much more reliable. Was that even with brake maintenance mode enabled?
Interesting, that would be way easier than the gas pedal ignition on-off switch flipping craziness procedure lol. I thought that brake maintenance mode recalibrated the brake booster when disabled, which I could be wrong about anyway, but I suppose if the battery is unhooked for a while, when it gets reconnected, it would probably do that anyway - any idea on that subject? Or am I misremembering about the recalibration thing with brake maintenance mode??I don’t use brake maintenance mode. I haven’t heard of a recalibration, but that doesn’t mean anything. Many owners have had issues getting their vehicle OUT of brake maintenance mode, some needing to go as far as using Forscan to force it out.Interesting, that would be way easier than the gas pedal ignition on-off switch flipping craziness procedure lol. To be thorough as “reset” might be confusing-disconnect the battery terminals and leave them disconnected until you are completely done servicing the brakes. The computer should have no power nor ability to turn on.So, Sierra, I haven't done my breaks yet, but it's something that will have to be done.. You're saying just do a battery reset on the vehicle instead of going into this break maintenance mode? That would be ideal, and I would think that would reset everything... I don't like to go through electronic maintenance modes.
This is not accurate for the electric brake assist rigs. You need the electric boost turned off via battery disconnect or brake maintenance mode to bleed the brakes.Brake maintenance mode is simply to rewind the electronic parking brake, so you can put new pads in the rear calipers. It can also be done manually.
No booster calibration as far as I know.I haven’t heard of a recalibration, but that doesn’t mean anything. Many owners have had issues getting their vehicle OUT of brake maintenance mode, some needing to go as far as using Forscan to force it out.
@Ducati1098 any thoughts on this calibration theory?
Unless the Bronco EBA is different than the Maverick (I don't think it is), the EBA is off when the key is off, and has no effect on brake bleeding. Can anyone show evidence the EBA systems operate differently? This is not accurate for the electric brake assist rigs. Any thoughts on disconnecting the battery? It seems like when I used BSM the computer was still a little unhappy after returning it to normal mode. The code could be cleared but we’d still get a soft code that would resolve itself after driving for a bit.
I don’t really have any opinion on it, mostly just because I’ve never tried it that way or personally had any issues with the BSM when bleeding brakes, so it’s hard to say for sure. I also rarely bleed things manually, since I have quick access to a pressure bleeder/brake flush machine.Any thoughts on disconnecting the battery? Whereas when disconnecting the battery, I could replace and bleed all four corners without any lights or warnings.
Maverick service says the same thing, but it's not necessary to bleed the brakes, I've done it with no issues. There are some early year Mavericks that will not go into brake service mode (DIY), and Ford has no fix. Thus, the manual method of retracting the EPB. I've done that too, works perfectly fine.
It’s for any type of hydraulic brake repair. The EBB is never necessarily “off” which is why the brake service mode exists and purposely disables the EBB. It’s not only to retract the rear pistons for repairs.Maverick service says the same thing, but it's not necessary to bleed the brakes, I've done it with no issues.
