I believe I read that the NTSB is looking at possibly mandating a recall for this specific issue. You need to report it to them to aid in their decision.

I had a 21 with a bad fuel pump. There was a part number change mid year in 2023. Bad part number is MB3Z-9H307-F, fixed with part MB3Z-9H307-R. I don't know what the fix was though. I made a report to the NTSB and got a letter saying they are looking into it but no further communication in the past 2 years.

Then it was changed again to MB3Z-9H307-V for 4 door.

There’s been 3 different numbers now for 2 door and 4 door.
What’s the part number for the 2dr 2.3l manual trans if that makes a difference?

Thank You: ))

Only difference is 2 door vs 4 door.

Newest 2 door number is MB3Z-9H307-U
So I called the only dealer I trust, small family owned dealer, and the are 10 days out.
Then called another small town dealer that sold a few years ago to a corp entity, they said they could diagnose it today but it would be a few days to get it back and it would cost $259 for the diagnostic. The big sticking point is that my doors and top are off and they did not have bays to store it overnight.

There are 4 other big stores within 30 min drive but I don’t trust them.

Mine goes in next Thursday to the small local dealer. Such is life. Haha.

Thanks again.

Yeah the diagnostic fee is just in case it ends up being something not covered under warranty. The dealership obviously still needs to get paid if it’s not warranty

If it is covered, then that disappears and Ford covers it all.

Anyway, glad to hear you found somewhere to bring it.

So I just ordered the latest PN for the 4 door. A third of the price of the 2 door pump. I can't afford to be broken down pulling an off grid camper and for $100 it's cheap insurance. I haven't looked into how to replace yet but I'm hoping it goes in through the floor like a 325i. Do you know of any other associated parts that I'll need for the change? Thanks.

You have to drop the fuel tank.
As far as other necessary parts, the only other thing I would get is a new gasket: 4L3Z-9276-AA

I don't know for certain, but 80% sounds kind of low for a vehicle that was just out driving. Alternator maybe?

At least with a 2.3 you can rule out bad valves.
Not if he has been cranking trying to get it to start

Drop the fuel tank to get to the fuel filter...a part that needs changed regularly....I don't like that idea.

Fuel filter is part of the pump and doesn't require being changed regularly.

Don't like that. Off road you can never be sure of the quality of fuel that has been sitting in a tank or can for any length of time. Off the grid we kept extra fuel in cans often for a long time before it was used. CARB used to take random samples around the state from gas stations as part of annual audit to insure quality and they did find issues.
